Streaming device for TV.

If anyone is looking for a cheap device to stream Netflix, Prime, Youtube etc i can recommend the Amazon Firestick lite. Currently available for $49 at various places, using 2 at home and just bought one for my dad for xmas.

Ive always been a fan of the chromecast. Do you have any idea how they compare?

I have no experience with the Amazon Firestick ... however as a complete newcomer to the 'smart tv' world, I was pleasantly surprised with the Xiomi Mi Box S for about $95 ... my only complaint is that it doesn't pass through 5.1 audio via the optical output ... only via HDMI ... and my old receiver doesn't cope with audio via HDMI. I'm finding myself watching a lot more youtube than free to air TV these days - not sure if that's good for me or not! The inbuilt chromecast is nice too. My father also now has one :-;

Never been able to get a chromecast to work - neither has my Daughter or GF, and can’t figure out why - it sees the network and does its dancing on the screen and says connecting but then just times out and glitches. Tried everything I can find on the net but to no avail. I’ve got a Vodafone TV box which mostly works although the Disney app is flakey through it.

The only issue I've had with my first gen is that it sometimes doesn't like talking to devices on 5Ghz Wi-Fi. It's been great to steam spotify netflix or YouTube and use or phone as a remote. Heaps more convenient than a smart tv with on screen keyboard, and I can browse what I want to watch next without stopping whats currently on screen.

Chromecast only casts from another device, fire stick is a stand alone unit not much bigger than a flashdrive and plugs directly into a HDMI port.
Then you load the apps you want, Vodaphone TV was discontinued early this year otherwise i would have bought a couple more.
