Gday groovers. I’m debating whether or not to install a Safari snorkel on my D4. Keen to hear your perspectives.

It’s a 16.5 TDV6, and it definitely goes off road both in sand / beaches plus fairly frequent bush tracks. Normally I try to avoid water but to be honest I’m trying to solve the problem of getting sand into the air box which has happened a bit lately.

I would go with the Airflow snorkel. Half the price and made in Melbourne.

I’ve always had snorkels on my 4wds. I do a fair amount of dirt road driving although not many deep water crossings these days. I’m sure it’s not always necessary but has always felt like good insurance to me

When I had my D2 I had a considerable problem with dust and dirt ingress into the air box and filter element. I was at that time living and working in the Pilbara and did spend a fair bit of time enjoying the surrounding country side. I was going through air cleaner elements like there was no tomorrow and at a considerable cost as well. Fitting a snorkel fixed that problem.
When I purchased my D4 a safari snorkel was one of the first after-market items that I had fitted. True, I don't do as much dirt road / off road driving as I used to. I don't live in the Pilbara any-more! That said, the fitting of the snorkel, as you no doubt know, the snorkel lifts your air intake above the normal dust created by dirt road travel and nowadays my air filter remains remarkably clean between services. I would certainly recommend fitting a snorkel if you do any real dirt road or off-road work....never mind the water crossings!

I wouldnt worry about it.

The D4 has a great airbox,and air filter set up.i doubt the sand or dirt will get through, so it should be OK.

As said, the D2 had a shocker of an airbox set up, although,like most,i didnt really have any engine issues.It let quite a bit of sand and dirt through.

Anyway,just my 2 cents worth.

Theres a thread on here on install of the Safari Snorkel.

Mine came with one when i took ownership, wouldn't be without it, air filter element stays cleaner, no sand in the airbox. Just make sure you seal it well in the inside front guard.

Oh, and drilling into the A pillar to mount the support bracket is hours of fun apparently....

I've always had Safaris on my 5 Landies (Yes I'm truly mad) and the present D4 is one of them. I can hear the air going in am happy with filter cleanliness even after considerable dirt road running but part of the secret there is not to drive too close to others if you can help it.
Snorkel and bull bar etc fitted by OL Bunbury and I was very happy with the workmanship.
