The EPB switch started playing up. The park brake would come on when pulled up, and release when driving off as it should, but it wouldn't release when I pushed the button down. I get dash warnings. No screeching or jamming of brakes.

A quick scan with the GAP IIDtool threw up the following:
U2001-01 (2B ) Switch general electrical failure – General failure information – general electrical failure

I had a quick chat with my indy, and he confirmed my suspicions about it just being the switch.

A trip to the local dealer, new switch in hand, then replaced in about 20 minutes.
I've had the centre console out before, and while you could probably do the job with it in, it's easier to see what's going on.
It also makes it easier to remove the flexible rubber cup that sits just forward of the switch (the space you finger goes into to work the button). You need to do that to get to the switch retaining screw.

Having read @BrianElloy's thread from a while ago (EPB switch (not actuator) issue (https://www.aulro.com/afvb/l319-discovery-3-and-4-a/252807-epb-switch-not-actuator-issue.html)), there was mention of crap getting into the micro switch, so I pulled my old one apart for a look see.

It's all snap-together assembly, and I wasn't careful pulling it apart.
Here's the switch part removed from the button assembly.

Looking at underside shows the paired push pins. One set for button down, one for button up.
They're not connected to the button, just slide up and down with the spring provided by the rubber/silicone sitting on the switch circuit board.

Already I could see fine sand and dust sitting on top. (I do a lot of beach driving.)

No obvious corrosion on the contacts.

Whether dirt was the issue, I'll never know. I'm not going to clean it and then try and reassemble the whole thing to find out.
The new one's in and working perfectly. [biggrin]
