View Full Version : How to unstick a blend door

Finally I have taken the dash out but I can't see an obvious way of fixing a sticking blend door. What am I missing?
I researched everything on how to pull the dash, how to replace o-rings and even how to disconnect the battery the Land Rover way, but do you think I bookmarked how to unstick blend doors? I have just been searching and can't find anything on the doors themselves. Heaps about the blend motors, but that's not what I need.
I have the dash top off and with the RH blend door motor removed have confirmed that the flap is sticking by moving the blend door lever. But I can't even see the flap, let alone clean/grease pivot points etc. Do I take off the top right motor (distribution motor?) so demist flaps can be moved by hand, so I can get to RH flap? Or do I need to pull out the HVAC box? I am trying to avoid that because I read somewhere you have to de-pressurise the A/C.
Or do I just stick a screw in between the box halves to split them slightly?167135

I removed the distribution motor, tried to see into the heather box to find why the RH blend flap is sticking. No joy. However, I've just googled and I've found the solution here - to remove the heater box. I'm in this deep, may as well go the whole hog...and no need to remove the evaporator. Excellent!

It's not really that hard, just (for me anyway) very time consuming and sometimes fiddly. The way Sydney is going, I'll have plenty more time at home. [bigsad]
I got the heater box out on the bench ready to pull apart in the morning. I don't see any other way of fixing a RH blend door that's sticking. The only other way I could think of that might work is to find brass gears for the blend motor so it was stronger. The blend door isn't sticking much... surprised it chewed out gears in what looks to be a nearly new motor.

The blend door often sticks because the heater box as a whole has warped. I solved it by removing the "door"and examining it for small surface marks where it was dragging. I then slightly trimmed the door so it conformed with the warped shape of the box and then replaced it... problem solved. I removed a smigeon more material than was probably required because I figured the box might possibly warp a bit more. Good luck with the re-install.

This was the only thing that I could find that was‘sticking ’. The rubber blend door was just catching on the stamping marks on the heater box. So I wonder why the blend door gears were chewed up. I filed down the section but I don’t see what difference it would make.

It maybe that the motors are not stopping when the door has reached the end of its travel in whatever mode is selected, so keep on straining the mechanism... I can't recall how the HEVAC ECM governs the motor stop/start process....(i.e. whether it's micro switches or 'feedback' when the door comes to the end of its travel)
