Penrite diesel 5W-40 Price

Has anyone noticed that Penrite diesel 5W-40 has increased enormously in price?

I think I got the last lot for about $72 at a Supercheap sale.

Supercheap want something like $109 and ebay sellers about $114.

I note that Supercheap are now selling 7litres of 10W-40 for $66.

Autobahn have 7litres of 5W-40 on sale (hah) at $76.
Pretty good price rise (about 30%) if they can make it stick I reckon. All at a time of record low oil price

It must be a US import?

The locally available oil should be Rimula Ultra

Just check it meets ACEA E6/E9 and not just the API CJ-4, any E6/E9 oil is top shelf IMO. (For a TD5 and prior. The ACEA and individual manufacturers specs are more stringent than the US API ones)

Regards PhilipAAnd check the price on Penrite Convoy DLA 10w-40 (20l drums), aka Enviro+ 10w-40 (7l bottles)
It meets the same specs as Rimula Ultra and should be cheaper.
I've been using it for years in the TD5, and previously in the Tdi and Patrol TD42T.

Simple answer seems to be Nulon 10W-40 diesel full synthetic which is E9 at under $100 for 10 litres.

BTW I used to use Nulon 5W-30 full synthetic for quite a long time until took recommendation of Rick 130 to use the Penrite 5W-40.

To answer the question of a previous poster the car has done 215KK and I bought it with about 134Kk and used Nulon 5W-30 for about 3 years the switched to Penrite for 4 years. I just fitted a new sump gasket so minimal leaks.

I don't know about now, but in the past Nulon didn't hot blend, unlike Penrite and the major blenders. Hot blending results in a more consistent product.

One mineral sand processor in Tassie uses all that states used waste oil & sometimes has to import.

I sold LPG to industrial users from 1990 to a few years ago. Waste oil users ( abattoirs, glass houses for tomato's etc) were almost outlawed by the EPA back then but they quickly realized that millions of litres of old oil are worse pollution than burning it off. Most went to cotton processors in remote zones. As an aside our biggest selling point was that you didn't need a second burner/kiln or whatever to commission every 2 or 3 weeks while you cleaned out the one just used. Schools also burnt the stuff - until they went to self managing & then had to pay maintenance costs.

I looked at several of the oil company "oil match" sites over the last few days and the Penrite site says that HPR diesel 5 is the ONLY oil that they recommend for TD5.No substitutes.
I have about 6 litres and bought 1litre of their full synthetic 10W-40 with "full Zinc" to top up to 7 litres for the next change.
Shell just recommend Helix Ultra or Helix HX8 which are petrol and diesel oil.
Rimula seems to be the go or Rotella imported from the USA. But Rimula comes in 20 litres only.

I walked around Supercheap today looking for another oil that looked the goods and confirmed they want $109 for 10 litres of HPR5.

They have added several /many? new oils to their lineup , several of which are diesel oils that are "outback tough" or HX or whartever but they don't recommend any of them it seems.
