Hi PedroTheSwift,
All the V8's had the Dynamic kit, whether it had the 'Dynamic' name or not.
If you are towing, MY17 onwards had the smaller fuel tank to make room for adblue, so maybe you want to stop at my16.5 . (for $85k you wont likely get MY17 or newer anyway)
I have attached a MY16 spec sheet to whet your appetite.
Happy hunting.

Keep an eye on the prices, March is probably a good time to start looking, I reckon prices have gone up about $10K since September when supply seems to dwindle and prices increased.

I had a look back through the cars that I had saved on my carsales profile for reference.
2015 MY15.5 65K Black TDV8 Dynamic $89990 Dealer
2015 MY15.5 56K Black V8SC Autobiography $94990 Dealer
2015 MY16 53K No Colour listed TDV8 HSE $94990 Dealer
2015 MY16 78K White TDV8 HSE $82990 Dealer
2014 MY15 67K White V8SC Autobiography 89990 Dealer
2014 MY15 49K White V8SC HSE Dynamic 88990 Dealer
All sold now but seem to be running about $10K cheaper than at the moment. That May- June time frame is definitely a cheaper time to buy. I was looking from about April last year seriously with a view to purchase in July.
The later year models commanded a premium but the advantage is that the MY16 and 16.5 TDV8s are now a year older and should come closer to the 85 - 90K mark. Mine was advertised as a private sale for $82K, I paid 80 but being a private sale stamp duty and rego transfer added $3500 to the purchase price and a few of the dearer dealer cars listed above were drive away pricing.

I too have noticed prices are up. Before CV-19 I looked at some FFRR SDV8 that where 80-90K now I don't see them less than 100K.
You will be lucky to find one with 20" rims but the rims are relatively cheap 2nd hand.
If you are towing I think the genuine towbar is a better option than the Hayman Reece (I have the Hayman Reece). Watch out for blown front struts and check the transfer case by going driving on a loose surface while performing tight turns. There shouldn't be any banging come from the front end after that.
The top ICE is very expensive and most people wouldn't have optioned it but the next level down is quite acceptable. Powerful UK has a series of videos on upgrading.
The only way you will know what ICE it has is by checking TOPIX or some other system with the VIN.

Yep, 21's seem to dominate, will search for list of 20" LR rim styles
I wouldve thought with that many speakers they'd be a bit more obvious...
I'm not sure the standard hitch will be high enough to level the van?? anyone?
struts check, low range check.

The easiest way to pick the non-povo stereo is the Meridian badges on the speaker grilles. Given the difficulty of upgrading not having Meridian sound was a deal breaker for me. I paid a deposit on a very nice TDV8 in Brisbane and when the pictures came through with no Meridian sound the dealers said " I know you said you wanted it but it doesn't really matter does it" errrm- I'll have my deposit back please.
There are at least 2 and maybe 3 Meridian systems and they are all good.

That looks a very tidy example.
As Tote says, (even though the ad says Premium surround sound system ) there should be badging on the speakers if it is a meridian. Meridian Surround (19 Speakers) was $2900 option, and (as Geedublya mentions) Meridian Reference was $13,600 (25 speakers). There is also a good writeup of upgrading from the base system to Meridian Surround at 2014 RRS: Upgrading Base Sound System to Meridian System | RangeRovers.net Forum (https://www.rangerovers.net/threads/2014-rrs-upgrading-base-sound-system-to-meridian-system.256913/) , including part numbers... it is something that can be done if you are up to it, and if the car ticks all the other boxes.....
Regarding the hitch, I have the standard towbar hitch on mine. For a while I had a Jayco expanda outback. fitted perfectly ( you have to take off the plastic cover around the towbar.) That was a standard ball hitch, next time I will go for something a bit more 4wd-ish, like a D035. I'm sure others can chime in with their experiences too.
As for things to check, also check rear diff pinion seal for leaks.

2015,2016 models come with larger fuel tank due to no add blue. I have the vehicle that you have specked and think you are right on for towing, I have just started setting mine up. 20 inch wheels are easy to buy , I have two sets , 22 and 20 and just swap when I want to head for the scrub.

From redbook research the MY 17 (released halfway through 2016) also did not have adblue and retained the 105Lt tank. The next release was the MY 18 which went back to 86 litres to accomodate the adblue tank.
My 17 TDV8 redbook.com.au (https://www.redbook.com.au/cars/details/2016-land-rover-range-rover-sport-sdv8-hse-auto-4x4-my17/SPOT-ITM-448279/)

Do these things lower at speed? and can you stop it?
also, does anyone actually use the access level? and can it be set to auto when the doors are open?
or better yet have a link to an on-line owners manual? [bighmmm][bigrolf]

Hi Pedro,
Without looking at the owners manual, yes they lower at speed, but at a more sensible one than D3's 80KM/H rings a bell
No you can't stop it but with a Gap tool you can program each height to your liking if you want to.
I've used access level for my mum to get in and out but generally at normal height its not necessary. You can't to my knowledge set the suspension to drop when you open the doors but deployable side steps are an option.
If you go to topix and register Home | TOPIx (https://topix.jaguar.jlrext.com/topix/vehicle/lookupForm) You can access all the owners manual for free, you do need to register though. You also get access to a few other bits like service schedules and accessory fitting instructions. 2016+ manuals are available at https://www.ownerinfo.landrover.com/

Online manual is available for MY16 onwards:

When you say "lower at speed" I am guessing you are referring to when in offroad height and speed is excessive, yes it does. There is offroad height 1 and 2, here's how they operate:
The Off-Road 1 height is 35 mm above the normal height setting, up to a maximum vehicle speed of 80 km/h (50 mph). The Off-Road 2 height is 65 mm above the normal height setting, up to a maximum vehicle speed of 50 km/h (31 mph). The suspension height can change automatically between these heights.
The Off-Road 2 height can be manually selected when at Off-Road 1 height, at any vehicle speed up to 40 km/h (25 mph). Press the up-arrow button on the electronic air suspension system controls.
If you want to control the offroad height thresholds then your choices are either the IID tool or Graemes LLAMS module.
....the car will also squat at high speed. Faster than any speed limit here in Aus. The D4 does at 160Kph not sure what the speed is for the L494.
I use access height all the time, it's easier for your passengers. You can set the car to lower to access height automatically when any door opens or just manually select it if you only want to use it from time to time. If stop/start (MY16 on) is active and you undo your seat belt, the car will shutdown and lower all at once (if auto access height is enabled).
Also, a nice little trick for when you're hitching up:
The buttons on the smart key can be used to operate the electronic air suspension system, allowing the vehicle to be raised or lowered remotely. Useful when loading or unloading the vehicle, connecting or disconnecting a trailer, and slow speed manoeuvring of a connected trailer.
To change the suspension height using the smart key, the hazard warning lamps must be switched on. Make sure to select Neutral (N) and apply the Electric Parking Brake (EPB) to maintain control of the vehicle.

I checked mine this morning, it drops once you are at or over 80 for a few seconds. IMHO that's probably good enough for most situations. The only time my D3 annoyed me was on Fraser where you were constantly resetting the height after going over 50 on the beach (and I tore off the back bumper the one time I forgot to lift it).

Tote

Ok [bighmmm][tonguewink],,

LR re-introduced high speed lowering at 105kph and only by 20mm IIRC but I don't know if it will when it knows that a trailer is attached.

8th April 2021, 03:18 PM
4x4 info is a bit dependent on what bits are fitted, it could include wade depth if the sonar widgets are fitted, otherwise it is diff lock status height and other time wasters
Cameras again depends on what is fitted - mine only has the reversing camera
Stealth blacks out the screen and internal lights
Ambient lighting is a pretty average set of colour changing LEDS that live in the console and you can change the colour. I believe the feature on the Full Size RR is more impressive
Auto parking is replaced with an alternative button to get into the climate control on mine. The auto parking on mine is activated by the soft button under the home button on the LHS of the screen, I'm not sure what the symbol is on the picture you posted.
Eco data has some interesting info on historical economy and riving patterns. I'd never looked at mine till this afternoon...
I'm not sure if what is on the sides of the screen and that menu is configurable or not, I might have to have a play...

Ha, two years ago I bought an MY13 Disco 4 TDV6 from a Canberra (Holden) dealer who didn't have the faintest idea about it.
I looked around it and kept my mouth firmly shut when I saw it had the optional electronic rear diff, leather seats and Meridian sound system!
Managed to get it down a further $2k due to cash and no trade.

Hi Jools, long time no talk......hope you are well.
What sort of money were they asking for the 2017 and what spec?
Tried selling mine on Carsale, as I hardly ever use it (due to buying a work ute) but too many tyre kickers and not enough buyers.

It looks like a nice car. You'll have to cross check the fitted options as the dealer has just ticked everything on the list (e.g. 825W and 1700W Meridians/ 3 different trim options/ 3 zone and 4 zone climate - looks like 4 though).
From what I can see in the Pics at seems to have a good set of options fitted.

You can't rely on Topix. Sometimes the dealer forgets to update services in the system (happened to me) and as you say, servicing could have been be done by an independent.
You could ask for the full history to be provided or use it as a bargaining tool to haggle on the price.
FYI recommended schedule is every 26K Km / 12 Mths which ever comes 1st. Many do a "health check" service at 13K Km i.e. oil and filter change mid point between services. This car is coming up for its 5th birthday in March.
I've attached a maintenance check list from a W/S manual I have...might be useful to help you understand what should have been done through its service history - you'll need to convert from imperial to metric:
170662.

DAB radio
Massaging seats
Sunroof
Meridian Sound
Front heated screen(I think)
Heated rear seats
And it's not white....

I pump oil out using rotary pump. Test oil each time. Do change at 12,500 ks and let dealer do the 25,000 k service. I reset the service log each change.
I only get a filter change when the dealer does the job , as the dirtier the filter the better it filters.

Bails, can you recommend a vacuum pump. My McNaught has failed.
I second the pump option for dropping the oil. More convenient, faster and less mess.

Everyone has bought the "special" tool required to remove the cartidge?
Anyone use something other than the Castrol 5/30 ?

Don't use a vacuum pump, simple rotary pump on drill works, you need to prime to start. Aldi have these on sale next weekend $12.00 I think.
I have a hand suction pump I use to prime. Synthetic Oil is thin when cold so no need to heat engine up.

and I used Penrite oil instead of Castrol. ENVIRO+ 5W-20 (FULL SYN.) | Penrite Oil (https://www.penriteoil.com.au/products/enviro-5w-20-full-syn)
The sump capacity is 8 litres including oil filter

I'm pretty sure the active exhaust was only an option on the SVR. Mine doesn't have it but is reasonably loud anyway.

Agree with no sun roof. Happy with the panoramic.
That is a stunning colour, similar to my D4. I've only seen one in the flesh and that was at the dealer, it really suits the RRS.
I guess with the sunroof not working it makes you wonder what else is wrong with it. You could make them fix it as a condition of sale. What's the service history like?

Its very shiney!
and suitable,
but if you track the official servicing it seems to have done over 40K between services...
so I asked the question last Friday, and was assured it HAD been serviced,, they just couldnt quite tell me by who---
and still cant..
the question is,, how much is it worth without that service....

only 3 turn up, the predelivery, then one at 18 or 19 then the final one 40 oddK later.
Theres another one with a LR service plan,,
any thoughts on the dollar value of that?

I was wrong,, only TWO,,
Looking at those two,i would move on.
40K,2yrs, between services is not good,in my opinion.
Its a bit strange the first one was done at such low K's.
Maybe a misprint, should have a 2 in front of it, which would be fine.
SBD4
15th June 2021, 07:27 PM
I was going to say that it might be OK based on your 1st info about servicing but....no, not if it's 40K/2yrs between services as Paul says. It's possible that this was a dealer car in Brisbane (which might explain the early service @ 10 mths old) then sold on to someone in WA who's either skipped regular servicing or had at least one service at an independent. At this point, unless they can provide some history, walk on by mate.

Cold Climate Pack gives you heated windscreen, Heated steering wheel, heated washer jets and heated seats front and rear.
You might want climate seats instead (heating and cooling). Also check the stereo. It looks like the 19 speaker 825w system but they say 8 speaker in the description. If you go to MY17 you get the 10.5" touch screen instead of the 8".

Yes make the seller replace the fobs as you weren't made aware of the condition of them when you purchased the vehicle.
You can most likely get them from the UK cheaper (paddocks etc). They will obviously need to be programmed to your car by the dealer (or someone that has an appropriate diagnostic tool like IID). If doing it through a dealer perhaps you could have them bill the the key/programming cost direct to the seller....no harm in asking.

Yes this annoys me also, My wifes SQ5 will hold the cruise control speed on down hill runs. I have noticed that if you are in sports mode the car will change down gears after you have applied brakes in downhill runs.

I tow my 3 Ton boat over and down a few hills on the way to the boat ramp and are constantly on the brakes, whereas my Ford Ranger has excellent engine braking and can maintain speed up and down hills.
