Hello and Happy New Year!
Was changing a puncture the other day and dang it, a wheel nut snapped. It's been cracked for a while I suspect as you can see.
This nut had always been a bit 'bent'. Now I know why. The progress of corrosion inside the crack has swelled and progressively forced that side of the nut open.

Anyhow, does anyone in North West Brisbane have one (or a couple) they could part with? I'm happy to travel but most wreckers and my usual suppliers are a 45 min drive away....which is a lot for a nut lol.

I do change my wheels a few times a year to fit my BMW muddies, and I notice that solid nuts can be purchased online.
Has anyone had any experience with these? As we all know, the stainless caps on the OEM nuts are an 'annoyance' when used often and deform.

Cheers

Scored a set of solids from my indie DazzaTD5 - now one very happy vegemite with no prospect of stuffed wheel nut covers - and they look better too!

Pics please Gav - are they stainless, coated or plated or just plain black steel?

Here you go Eric. Solid, but not chromed, so assume polished. Dazza had had them for some time.

Does anyone use Stainless wheel nuts? I'd have thought they'd gall something terrible.

Bright nickel plated would be ok.

Probably, but then only if the hub studs are stainless too.

I bought a set of solid ones about 4-5 years ago to avoid this issue and the more common swelling and breakage of the cover seen on the factory ones. They’re still fine with just a bit of surface rust so assume they’re coated. Gorilla brand from the US was the main trusted source back then.

Cheers,
Scott

I hope you have not been using your LR wheel nuts with the BMW wheels - the LR nuts with the BMW wheels do not have enough threads in contact to be safe.

I use these nuts - Gorilla® 14mm x 1.5 Chrome Lug Nuts from Brandsport Auto Parts (#68148) (https://www.brandsport.com/grla-68148.html)

Sorry Mate, been a while since I've logged in.
No, I use the nuts you linked to.
Do you use a tapered washer between them and the rim? Like this
Gorilla® Chrome Lug Nut Washer E-T Ultra Mag/Tapered (Center) from Brandsport Auto Parts (#79918) (https://www.brandsport.com/grla-79918.html)

I’m looking to buy a set of these Gorilla wheel nuts from Brandsport in the USA but their online shop only has options to ship to the USA. I’ve sent them an email but have heard nothing back. For those that have gone down this path, how did you place your order?

Thanks but I need the Gorilla extended thread nuts as I’m filling the 17” BMW wheel and need to get the full three count (>9) when fitted. Haven’t been able to source any locally.

Sorry Ralph missed this post at the time - answer is no as the BMW wheels do not need them as the nuts I used are a match for the BMW rims.

I got mine quite a few years back and there was no problem with shipping - just the cost which was about $50 for 30 nuts at the time. Later I bought nuts for another vehicle and had no problem.

If you cannot sort it out, you could sign up to this US shipping agent Can I Ship It? International Shipping Restrictions | MyUS (https://www.myus.com/benefits/shipping/customs-help/restrictions/)
