Anyone know who manufactured the Australian assembled (CKD) Series 2A Land Rover grilles?
I wonder why these grilles were used, was it just as part of the "Australian Content" or to identify/personalise the vehicles as an Aussie model?
Also I wonder if they were designed by UK Land Rover Engineers, or designed here in Australia.
Its a shame the series 3 run never had an exclusive wire/metal Aussie grille too.

Looking forward to some answers.

Cheers, Mick.

Here are a two that were exclusive to Australia in the Series 2A era.
It appears the Aussie ones were not galvanized, but just coated in good old "Silver Frost".
The third (Chevron/Maltese Cross) was used on the Series 2A's in the UK (? early S3's too) and on vehicles exported to some other countries.
Shane do you know if the vehicles in Australia were complete imports, or CKD?
My apologies for the upside down pic...i just couldn't get it to orientate correctly.

Cheers, Mick.

As far as I remember:-

1. The Australian special grilles were chrome plated, but this did not last long.

2. They only appeared in the late sixties as part of the push to look a bit flasher to compete with the Jap ones that had begun to appear.
