After many months of having a engine fault light come up on the dash and disappear , I finally caught it on a scanner.
the fault code is P0335 - crankshaft position sensor "A" circuit.
Question, What is it and where is it. Does it need replacing. It a D3 4lt petrol 2008 with 135,000 on the clock

Well if its causing the fault yes it does need replacing, no idea of location but CAS are usually fitted in the bellhousing facing to the rear aimed at the flywheel.
Some are mounted on the front and read off the harmonic balancer.

Thanks loanranger, ive been reading the forum and making sure all earths are good and clean. Checking cable plugs and spraying them. Even the ones behind the battery. The faults cleared once more. Until it happens again.

Make sure you give the harness a decent check first. That type of sensor normally dies and stays dead.. harness will give you those faults. Also remove the sensor and clean the tip and put it back in and test..
On a car like this it's normally at the front of the engine behind the balancer the wheel they read off is usually internal on the crank shaft.
