1) does one have to crack the brake lines to replace the brake booster on a 95 300tdi 130 ?

2) is there an uprated booster available ?

TIA

The master cylinder has to be pulled back around 60mm (I think) to be removed out of the MC, so I don't know if there is enough flex in the pipes to move that far...

I did read where by someone used a Disco-1 Brake Booster in a Defender. I think the op mentioned that it was bigger than the Defender one... Not sure if that is true but hopefully someone on here will have better knowledge than me

No Inc...all brake lines stay in tact attached to MC and no need to remove fluid. Just undo the pipe holder that holds the brake pipes to the bulkhead so it gives you room to move MC out of the way.

I replaced my Booster recently after discovering cracks where the MC mounts. Common fault

I just replaced like for like. Figured that the original lasted 325,000kms.

I replaced the vacuum pump at the same time. No real reason to replace this, only to have both new and working in unison. Previous vacuum pump was over 11 years old.

I started to look at installing a twin diaphragm booster, e.g. D1, and an F250 as per the 6x6 (won't fit easily, needs the extra width in the engine bay) but it never went any further than that.

There is the option of a hydraulic booster too, someone had done that here recently (Red Booster)

don't think i need an uprated system as i have been more than happy with what it had till it started to fade away a little bit...

am trying to keep it simple, like me :p

Just make sure it's a TRW booster then, accept no others.

Someone posted a video once of a no-name booster that flexed worse than a craked one when you stomped on the pedal [emoji50]
