my td5 auto discovery has always seemed to have a harshness during gearchanges.even when cruising and engine is at a low rpm the driveline seems to drone at vibrate until she picks up the rpm.does anyone else have this problem.?

At what rpm does this happen. I have a funny buzz type noise in mine at around 1500rpm, which only happens in high range, but gear changes are ok.

problably at its worst between 1500 and 2000rpm or when the engine is laboring.not a rattling noise more a driveline vibration.having driven a couple of other autos they had the same vibration yet a manual is much smoother.

I have a '00 TD5 auto. I have a similar vibration recently but only when accelerating, not sure what rpm - probably between 1500 & 2500. Makes the dash rattle slightly. doesn't appear to happen when auto locks up after 83kmh & 2000rpm.
but I got under on the weekend with a long srew driver looking for movement in uni joints etc. Didn't find anything but something made a difference - cause its not there now. I suspect the rubber flange joint at the diff - doesn't look true in shape, maybe after 6 years it has had it. Also I live in Canberra & with the cold weather perhaps the rubber is hardening - off centre over night. anyway there seem to be a little bit of flex at this joint.
I looked at the double carden joint at the transfer case but no movement there that I can see.
