View Full Version : Where does this coolant hose go?

Hi guys,

I'm going to replace the coolant hoses on my p38. I've tried to replicate what is illustrated in the British Atlantic kit for Bosch engines

Hose And Thermostat Kit For Range Rover P38 - Part 9372BSKA (https://www.roverparts.com/engine-cooling/coolant-hoses-lines/9372BSKA/)

I can't however work out where this hose, PEH101500 goes in the car. I've seen it mentioned as a water rail hose and a inlet bypass hose, but I can't seem to see one on the car already.

Can someone point out where it goes on the car? (AAA batteries added for scale)

That's got me stumped too. I have bought all new coolant hoses for my (Thor) P38, but that's not one of them. I started looking for you, but it was a rabbit hole finding what exactly that part suits.

All I can suggest is go to the link below. To me it looks like this hose (type in the p/n and search) is for something else. Because if you go to the coolant section, for VIN XA-on (Thor), it doesn't appear. Let us know how you get on.

Thanks for the tip! That's a great resource

I did a bit of digging but raised more questions than answers. The part appears to be listed as necessary for Bosch engines but the bit it supposedly connects to does not?

I found that pic but I think you got into the drop-down menus, which I failed to do. The answer I think is that as you can see this is for up to VIN WA------, which I think is GEMS. That diagram representation of hoses certainly doesn't look like my Thor, anyway.

Looks like the bottom radiator hose into the bottom of the thermostat. On a Thor at least.

These are the Thor hoses from the JLR Classic parts site. To me it doesn't look like any of the hose on there.

Also rookie warning: be really careful if you're replacing the two heater hoses near the firewall. Best to carefully cut the old ones off at the firewall side at least, as you don't want to move the pipes they're attached to too much (that go to the heater core) as potentially you'll disturb the heater core o-rings, causing them to leak.

Hi Biggin, the lower hose is much bigger. The inner diameter of the hose in question is about as big as a finger.

Thanks also for the tip about the heater hoses. I'm still in two minds about replacing them at all. They are looking tired, and so bought replacements. They are not currently leaking so tempted to "let sleeping dogs lie".

Bit of a long shot here.

I think you may have been inadvertently supplied with a GEMS bypass hose.

Here is a pic of the inlet manifold to bypass tube on my 4.0 GEMS.

It's about the diameter you mention.
