Hello All,

Has anyone fitted a "Universal Power Window Conversion" into their early Defender 110s made around 1993 or earlier?

I am currently waiting for parts and tools to arrive from overseas and interstate, so my work on the Defender has stalled. Instead of just twiddling my thumbs I am pondering some possible future improvements. While watching some YouTube clips about fixing the Defender's door locks; they are on my "To Do List", I scrolled down the right-hand column of the screen's suggested viewing. I found a clip about changing manual window winders to power ones by fitting a "Universal" kit. Accessed 5th February 2021 from, Install Universal Power Windows | In Depth Tutorial - YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uzMVuTPitxg)

There is an Australian version of the conversion which I watched first - however the language is a tad too coarse to post up for this forum. The same product is used in both the Australian and American versions of the YouTube kits.

So it got me thinking... has anyone installed one of these "Universal Power Window Conversion kits on their early 1990s Defenders which had hand operated window winders? Was the power conversion worth the effort?

Kind regards
Lionel

G'day Tins,

With the power windows I could do the Homer Simpson... Window goes up.... window goes down... window goes up... You get my drift?

I use working on the Defender, and other vehicles, as a reward system after I apply for any new jobs that get advertised. There have been a few nibbles lately however, the hook for landing a new job has not been taken yet. I suppose this scenario could be substituted within previously quoted Homer Simpson line ...apply for jobs... work on the Defender... apply for jobs ... work on the Defender.

However, while I wait for parts and tools to arrive it has become ... apply for jobs ... watch YouTube clips about working on the Defender/Discovery/Series. ... apply for jobs...

Unfortunately, it is now back to the "apply for jobs" part of the cycle... Not the most rewarding pursuit so far! Fingers crossed though.

Now what did that Position Description say... In 600 words write a pitch to cover all the selection criteria; using the STAR technique ...Situation, Task, Action & Results equals ... "sigh!" Due date in two days time ... here we go..

Kind regards
Lionel

Why would you ruin a great system with Shure to fail 12 volt sparks n questionable gearing . Defender doors not the most robust item, adding more complexity n weight just a hiding to nowhere ....🤔
