Guys,

I'm looking to purchase a Freelander, and I was wondering if there are any particular issues to lookout for or long term problems.

Guys,

The biggest issue with them has been the rear diff. Listen for droning noise from the rear but can also be confused with tyre noise, which is worse with worn tyres.

Door locking actuators are also prone to failure, check ALL the electrics work as they should.

I could make a list as long as your arm re things that could/might fail but the same would apply to any vehicle nowadays!

Has the timing belt and water pump been changed? Is there proof of this? This is required after 10 years.

If you can afford it go for a post facelift model i.e 2011 on, was a good upgrade some possible niggly problems sorted out.

Thanks for the advice. I did go ahead and purchase the car, and it runs like a dream (so far). I will check out the timing belt. Not sure if it’s been changed but better safe than sorry
