Greetings, all!
My 110 has a leaking fuel tank. Not that this would be trouble enough but replacing the failing item is not as easy as it may seem. Over here we have less options as you folks have as the choice is more or less reduced to OEM parts.
Now my question: is it worth shipping a replacement tank, which would most likely hold a larger volume of fuel, of an independent manufacturer from Oz, or should I resort to a part off LR's own shelf? I have no clue what the difference in price would be.
Anyone out there with a replacement who is willing to share his/her insights and experiences?
Thanks!

As you will have to remove the tank, have you considered using POR 15 Fuel Tank Sealer?
Worked fine for me on the 2A but you need to follow the instructions to the letter.

Shouldn't cost anymore to ship an aftermarket tank, and, given Landrover pricing prob won't cost anymore to buy.

WH wheel carreir in Bradford make long range tanks for 90/110's. they charge an extra £50 for stainless ones. It is on e of the their tanks that i have in the back of the 90. And i have just been all round Aus and had no problem with it.

Thanks, mates!
"Over here" is the far North of Europe, Landrovers are a rare breed in our region.
No, I haven't even heard about POR 15 fuel tank sealer. I did a quick Google search and collected information, seems to do the trick but does someone have profound experience? It seems to be a lot of bother to pull off the fuel tank twice...
Ali, do you have a weblink to the Bradford guys or do I have to gooogle around?
I enquired with an Oz company about shipping a replacement but they haven't replied yet. Maybe I have to send a reminder (or maybe they all watch the soccer match...)
Cheers

Not sure about "profound" experience, Jojo. I had a leaking metal tank as well as an unknown internal coating coming away & blocking the pickup tube.
I followed the instructions & have a good job which I believe is certainly as good or better than the original.
It is most important to
1. Clean.
2. Etch.
3.Apply the stuff completely all over inc. the corner seams & the "roof' of the tank & is why the full kit should be used & not the motor cycle tank size.
They say not to keep the surplus once opened, but I have read of people putting the lid back on securely, & reusing it for odds & sods jobs.
With a tank in reasonable condition, ie. patching any large holes with the fibre glass from the exterior, it is my impression it is a stronger tank than the original.
My opinion.:)

Thanks mate!
I'll see if I can find that magical stuff somewhere over here. But first of all I'll see what damage there is to the tank, of course. The leak must be between the tank floor and the protection plate, which is inseparably corroded to the fuel tank itself...
When trying to take it off the vehicle at least most of the bolts just broke when trying to undo them, hopefully the tank itself is in better condition. I'll keep yo posted!
Cheers
