I'm on Bobs' side here i think we will see a bit of an increase in fuel costs.
My cynical view is that "any excuse will do"

Ask Epic Dragon to pop over and collect them. Her new chair will have no problems in the sand, apparently. [wink11]
She might even be able to tow the boat out of its predicament, if the chair's as good as she tells us. [bigrolf]

Probably just thinking of myself, 130l fuel tank, lasts me a while if I manage it properly. I think our fuel prices are regulated by Singapore. It could be weeks before that ship is moved, they say. I'm thinking prices will go up proportional to the length of the blockage, [ Easter, any one?]then drop again. Guess I'm turning into a real grey nomad, watching every penny. The following link says fuel prices may not rise considerably in the short term, but the rise in freight costs, and shortage in consumer products such as computer chips, might cause rises in computer and consumer prices.
Ever Given Suez Canal blockage should not drive up petrol prices, but Easter might (msn.com) (https://www.msn.com/en-au/money/markets/ever-given-suez-canal-blockage-should-not-drive-up-petrol-prices-but-easter-might/ar-BB1eYxyD?ocid=msedgntp)

The price of fuel here should be dropping. There is no impediment to crude getting to Singapore, where the bulk of our fuel is refined. The impediment is to Europe, so there should be a glut this side of the Suez.
It's only greed and gouging driving fuel prices up just before Easter. Nothing new.

Having been through the canal, you'd think I would have realised that. [bighmmm] The excuse the oil companies are using is the increased freight costs incurred by having to pay shipping companies to go the extra distance around Africa to Europe have to be passed on . Our mob here will not miss an opportunity to use that to charge us more. Still, it's a sign things are getting back to normal, fuel price rise at Easter, now all we need are strikes at Xmas, :spudnikconfounded:

why don't they just use one of the other ships and a big snatch strap and snatch it. Probably don't have rated recovery points.[bigrolf]

It's costing fuel companies $ 350,000 in fuel alone to transit via the Cape of Good hope, but, and here's the kicker, the canal authority raised their canal transit fees to $ 130,000 / container ship, and while fuel was $ 250/ tonne , many shipping operators gave the canal a miss.
Petrol prices are on the rise, but don't blame the new Suez crisis (thenewdaily.com.au) (https://thenewdaily.com.au/finance/consumer/2021/03/26/petrol-prices-ever-given/?utm_source=Adestra&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=PM%20Extra%20-%2020210326_QLD)

Millions of ships have transited the canal, and this is the first one to stuff it up. The only other time AFAIK that the canal was blocked was by the Egyptians during the Suez crisis. When we went thru North / South on our way home, we could not get fuel for 24 hours at the Southern end. Our Senior Engineer went ashore to try to sort it out and was thrown in jail for not having a visa. Funny cattle, Egyptians.

There is much more to the Suez Canal than just a ditch in the desert:
The Suez Canal has a daily capacity of approximately 50 – 85 vessels, with vessels entering from both sides. This navigation simulation from the official Suez Canal Authority (SCA) illustrates the margins very well as hundreds of ships are caught up in the traffic snarl caused by the canal being blocked.

Suez Canal: Ship blockage may be due to 'human errors'
Suez Canal: Ship blockage may be due to ′human errors′ | News | DW | 27.03.2021 (https://www.dw.com/en/suez-canal-ship-blockage-may-be-due-to-human-errors/a-57022549)
Egypt's Suez Canal chief says strong winds and weather weren't the main reasons the ship ran aground. The Ever Given has been wedged across the canal since Tuesday, blocking the way for other maritime traffic.
The head of Egypt's Suez Canal Authority, Osama Rabie, said Saturday that "technical or human errors" may be to blame for the grounding of a giant container ship (https://www.dw.com/en/suez-canal-still-blocked-as-frustrations-grow/a-56983465) in the crucial waterway.

Ship blocking Suez Canal finally FREED
Ever Given ship blocking Suez Canal finally freed (yahoo.com) (https://au.news.yahoo.com/ship-blocking-suez-canal-finally-freed-043116146.html)
A cargo ship which has caused chaos after being trapped in the Suez canal (https://au.news.yahoo.com/we-apologise-bold-plan-to-move-ship-stuck-in-suez-canal-062318164.html) has finally been freed.
The MV Ever Given, a Panama-flagged, Japanese-owned ship that carries cargo between Asia and Europe, got stuck Tuesday in a single-lane stretch of the Suez Canal.
In the time since, authorities had been unable to unstick the vessel and traffic through the canal — valued at over US$9 billion a day — has been halted, further disrupting a global shipping network already strained by the coronavirus pandemic.
On Sunday about 4.30am (local time), teams managed to finally free the ship, maritime services provider Inchcape tweeted.
“She is being secured at the moment,” it tweeted.
“More information about next steps will follow once they are known.”

What I have seen is a statement that the stern is now free, at least to the extent that the rudder and prop can both turn freely. But while a lot of sand has been moved from round the bow, it now appears it may be sitting on rock. Not as easy to remove that with a suction dredge.

Yes, it will need to be surveyed, but they will not do it right there. The plan is for it to be moved to the big lake further north where it can be anchored out of the canal.
I would not be surprised if they attach the biggest tow line known to man and run the biggest tug that they have in front of it while getting there.
Then they can start a "go fund me" collection to pay for some of the salvage costs!

It’s at a large construction site - 5 tower cranes, I think 15 generators (of decent size, not small tradies units) last time I checked, umteen light towers and all the other equipment on site plus subcontractors diesel too as there’s no other fuel within easy access. Lasts around 2 to 3 weeks between fills. System has swipe cards so the Principal can bill the subbies each month accurately.

Suez Canal backlog finally cleared

Suez Canal backlog finally cleared (bangkokpost.com) (https://www.bangkokpost.com/world/2094479/suez-canal-backlog-finally-cleared)
AIRO: All ships stranded by the grounding of a giant container ship in the Suez Canal in March have now passed through the canal, ending the backlog that built up during the blockage, officials said on Saturday.
The last 61 ships, out of 422 that were queuing when the MV Ever Given was dislodged on Monday, passed through the vital trade artery on Saturday, the Suez Canal Authority (SCA) said.

Compensation claim could surpass one $US1 billionLast of 400 stranded ships pass through Suez Canal as compensation case looms - ABC News (https://www.abc.net.au/news/2021-04-04/last-stranded-ships-pass-through-suez-canal/100047796)
The Egyptian government said the Ever Given would not be released until compensation was paid by the vessel's owner.
According to Mr Rabie, the loss could surpass $US1 billion ($1.3 billion).
The Ever Given's technical managers, Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement, said on Monday that its initial investigations suggested a strong wind had veered the ship off course.
However, in an interview with the privately-owned Sada el-Balad TV on Wednesday, Mr Rabie said he believed the impact of the wind was not the main reason for the incident, and that "technical or human errors" may have been to blame.

Haven't been through the Suez, but did the Panama Canal 18mths ago.
What an absolutely amazing operation to observe.
The Panama enlarged it's capability to support the fbs a few years ago and when you see them in their special locks one wonders just how large cargo ships can become.
Passenger Liners are now as big as "supertankers" were 20yrs ago
