Hi everyone,

This is ONLY for reference for anyone wanting to blank and bypass the EGR cooler on a defender Puma 2.4 or 2.2. The EGR & cooler are the same on both as I understand. Mine is a 2.4. (See photos)

There is 1 plate for the exhaust side of the cooler and 1 plate (with bolt cutouts so you can fit in while engine is in vehicle by just loosening the EGR bolts to slide in) in my case I have the whole engine out so it's a lot less fiddling.

!!!IMPORTANT!!!
You will need the ECU modded also so the EGR no longer operates and so the check engine lights does not come on the dash. If you have a BAS Remap RRC tool, that would do it.

Its for REFERENCE ONLY if anyone needs to see how to do it "properly" in my opinion. Most articles of EGR deletion on a Puma Defender and even the blanking plates you buy, will only come with 1 blanking plate for the EGR side post EGR cooler. I have blanked pre cooler and post cooler so that exhaust gases don't even enter the cooler chamber and so the chamber is totally isolated, which is in my opinion is completely necessary if you plan to truely delete the EGR system. Also you will need to remove the coolant pipes connected to the cooler and simply connect them together with some metal pipe, this way the coolant also does not enter the EGR cooler. You could also shorten and delete these pipes altogether to reduce plumbing. This mod is not road legal as anyone will tell you but lots of people still do it, to all diesels with EGR systems not just defenders.

All the best,

Also found this great video for anyone that needs to know how the EGR cooler works internally.

I’ve just ordered the BAS 150HP City Tune but having a devil of a job finding blanking plates. I need shipped to New Zealand and one seller wanted $95 shipping.

I have asked the seller in the link above if they’ll post to NZ as not offered but any other sources appreciated.

I removed and cleaned the EGR valve so confident it will be closed when programming the ECU but would be best to had blocking plates.

Make a template from the gasket and have a piece of sheet metal cut, i used 1.15mm zinc annealed steel for my TDV6 blanking plates.
