Hi all,

I think sometime ago I saw an UK D2 ad but unsure of details as it was too long time ago and did not have any intention to remember it.

So my question is, does LR make a D2a (or D2) in a form of a HSE equivalent that has all of those things:

- Manual gearbox
- ACE
- SLS
- Leather trim
- Electric and heated seats
- Rear airconditioner
- Dual sunroofs

Yes, may need to buy a manual SE and add the options

Not any more[bigsmile]

Still, I suppose someone might have ticked the options box for all of that. It'd be a nice car. And manuals were more common in the UK.

Last year you could buy a manual Discovery Sport in the UK.

I thought, apart from the gearbox, everything on that list was standard on an HSE.
In this country Td5 was not available on an HSE, until the D3 had been released then a very limited number were sent from the large stock of superseded UK cars.
John, not only is a manual transmission more common in the UK, but automatics are quite rare.
A Pommie flabottomist saw me pull up one day and enquired about my car. She couldn't get over how many cars in this country are automatic. She said that usually, in the UK, only people with disabilities speced autos.

Same as here and the USA!!

okie, then what do you think which way will be easier? or what do you vote for?

1- buying a great condition HSE and convert to manual (getting a full donor Manual D2/D2a on the side)

2- or waiting for months/years to see one imported SE with full options coming up (with unknown condition). I haven't seen anything like that in the last 3 years in Au market.

Mine has all that minus the dual sunroofs and manual box.

Do the conversion or learn to appreciate the automatic.

Take no notice of Bohica, he's only a shonky wheelbarrow dealer. [tonguewink]

I'd imagine the heavy towing he regularly does.

I would assume a rear AC could not be optioned without being a 7 seater and SLS comes as a standard fit with 7 seats.

What motor preference ??

There is nothing wrong with a well maintained auto box for towing, Just ask the farmers towing huge air seeders around the paddock with their auto tractors or truckkies pulling road trains with an auto box fitted in the prime mover[bigwhistle][thumbsupbig]

50/50 odds that it's still fitted tho (admittedly more likely given it's higher trim).

Option 1 has the highest fun factor.
Option 2. You know how much UK cars rust out? You'd wait and wait, possibly for ever, and then have to buy the rear chassis to weld in.

Then you don't have to worry about spigot bushes, DMF's, thrust bearings and the actual box dying, I think the zf is probably stronger and more reliable than the r380 when properly maintained and driven.

Cheers

You're preaching to the converted. I haven't owned a manual car for about twenty years.

Not many road trains with automatic transmissions. :no2:

I have owned both over the years and an auto absolutly ****s on a manual on the beach (Which is most of the time for me) .
At the moment I have a manual 79 Series that is an absolute beast power wise and could likely pull a house down and it does a fantastic job of dragging the 3T brick around but my little D2a auto makes it look feeble on the soft sand because there is Zero chance of stuffing up a gear change when things get tricky in the D2a with CDL engaged [thumbsupbig]

The manual with the V8 is...fun. And adds character. Its better downhill and the extra ratio is nice. I have never bogged the D2 in sand but admit that geneally an auto in sand is better (except if not cooled properly like a lot of dual cab utes. The Triton is one of 2 dual cabs that have an auto trans cooler). On a different note the manual D2 runs an engine oil cooler on the V8 but funnily the D2a does not.

Must admit I do like the 6 speed auto I drive now but I love jumping in the D2 and shifting cogs.

Cheers

Plenty of self shifting manuals ( oxymoron I guess ) though. Eaton AutoShift, Volvo iShift, Scania OptiCruise. They all work great, except when bobtail.

I have a D2 auto and a D1 manual. I like both, but the auto makes better decisions than I do when things get sticky.

My Ford is auto, as it's a lazy sort of car.

Had a bunch of twin cam FIATs, a few Minis, four cylinder things. Wouldn't dream of having an auto in any of them. Had a couple of V8 Fords, one 318 Valiant and one Holden. Wouldn't dream of having a manual in any of them, and the Holden was a PowerGlide 2 speed.

Tins i have the opposite configuration in D1 and D2 to yours. Both V8s. The auto in the D1 makes it smooth. Cheers

@ Manual vs Auto:

I am with manual D2 just like a man with a woman, so can't explain (and the woman normally does not need you to explain why you love her or marriage her, if in rarely case she would ask me she then knows that I love her curved bump than anything else [biggrin] just like I love the D2 spare wheel only), just jump on her and rock [biggrin]

In this country Td5 was not available on an HSE, until the D3 had been released then a very limited number were sent from the large stock of superseded UK cars.

So working on this logic, my 03 Td5 HSE was released after the D3 which was released in 2005.

This would then make my D2 a 2005 model:confused:

It would have come in the same batch as mine. There was a large pool of unsold stock in the UK, at the time of release of the D3.

The Australian industry was far more cunning, in the early '90s recession, when they had acres of unsold cars. The build plates were attached as the stock left the holding yards. Some vehicles were up to two years old before the plate was fitted.

It was just the early 90's. My D1 is a Jan '97 build but didn't get sold in Australia till mid to late '98.
