Hi All,

Was hoping to get a bit of guidance from the AULRO community on what I should do.

As a little background info: I have a MY2008 D3 TDv6 which has a blown motor as a result of the oil pump pulley breaking off ( I purchased the vehicle in this condition as bit of a project :eek2:). I have also now got a replacement motor in the form of a 2015 Territory engine with 141k km. Since the engine is out of the vehicle now, access is ideal for getting to the rear crank seal.

What I would like to know is, should I go ahead and change the rear crank seal even though it is not showing any signs of leaks? My understanding is that if I go down this route then I would also need to acquire some tools to fit the crank sensor, which looks like it would end up costing more than the part itself.

I'm not really sure how prone to leaking the rear seals are as I couldn't find much info online, so any feedback or advice on what I should do is greatly appreciated. Cheers.

That's a tough one , at almost 200k I have no leaks anywhere but if I had the motor out I'd most likely replace it.
At 140k you'll probably get to 300 without an issue.

Thanks for your input loanrangie, it seems like I will get a fair amount of km before it might start leaking, but it would still really annoy me if it does when I had prime opportunity and access to change it now 😁.
I think I'll start looking for necessary parts to do the change, unless it's really really unlikely to leak in future I might just bite the bullet. Cheers.

You may get another 5+ years.

Thanks again Loanrangie - by the sounds of things it doesn't seem like this a huge problem area that leaks often - just a pain to get to I guess when it does.

Seems like a relatively low risk one to leave. Appreciate your thoughts.
