Has anyone replaced wheel bearings on 2004 L322

G'day Brains Trust, yes I have used the Search Function and got Zip.

My rear wheel bearings are louder than the stereo so need to do something about it. I'm lead to believe that a press is required? Any other specialist tools?

they are a big bearing and you need a big press

I once saw a report where 20tonnes was needed and the bearings flew over the workshop.

If it's like a D2 , then the way to go usually is just replace the hub.

new complete hubs are scarce LR doesn't list the whole assembly for the rears any more , they supersede to individual parts and front never were listed as a complete assembly they supply individual components.

unlike D2s were the hub bearing wasnt serviceable, the L322 was

Is the upright aluminium or steel?
If aluminum, heat is your friend, (I can detail the procedure, replaced many a race car unitary wheel bearing in aluminium uprights) if not, a big press as suggested by Phillip

I can second you will need a big press, its one of the only jobs I have paid to have done, in my 2002's case the back ones took quite some time as the hubs had to be sent to a bus company to press out as the local land rover indy blew the hoses of his press trying.

Car is back home and quiet as a mouse in the rear, He did mention that heat was his friend. The big problem was that it was all original and after 17 years and 235K things were bound to happen. Hand brake shoes melted and disintegrating due to heat and age, new ones have arrived and fitting begins tomorrow.

Did mine at a friends fully equipped truck workshop with air over hydraulic 30 tonne press and a selection of drifts and large sockets. Nearly stalled it a couple of times - worth paying to get done as you did if you didn’t have access to a decent press. [emoji106]
