Rear View Mirror

I have a Disco 98 model and my daughter, on her third driving lesson, managed to rip it off while trying to adjust it. It seems that there is a metal part which is glued to the window and the interior mirror slips over it. However the metal bit is firmly attached to the mirror housing. The Service manual only mentions sliding it off/ on.
To replace is the metal part just glued back? I tried some Instant glue but it could not make contact.

Most Series 1 Discos only had the interior mirror secured to the glass with an adhesive pad. The pad is obtainable as a separate part if needed.

If yours is something different & it does have a metal mounting bracket that the mirror is attached to, then any auto shop will have Loctite Interior Mirror Adhesive in stock. Take off the metal bracket & glue it back in place.

Will give it a try. It seems that when it was initially applied some glue seeped up into the plastic mounting.

Most windscreen places should have the glue - when you need a new windscreen they knock off the old mounting (sometimes comes with the new windscreen) and glue it on to the new windscreen and tell you not to put the mirror back on for about 12 hours when the glue has set properly.

I had my mirror come off my disco too The disco mirror is not like the old ford type - The metal pad stays put, attached to the mirror housing. Don't use superglue, it won't last. That two part pack works better ( Generic brand at Supercheap -$10 ) - I filed the old glue off the back of the mirror assembly down to bare rough metal, and gently scraped what was left off the black pad of the windshield. Prep as per instructions, and when fitting wiggle for a couple of sec to distribute glue. Then hold together 2 minutes, and let sit as long as possible ( I waited 10min and drove away). 6 months later, So far so good.

i used to fit (or should i say re-fit) the one one the wifes old falcon.....

i used a bit of sand paper or emery cloth to scratch the glass the last time i did it.....
and it never came off again.....i guess it gave the glue something to bight into.....
just a thought......




PS.....i only scratched a small part.....the bit that is covered by the mirror base.....
not a whole section of the screen.....once the mirror was glued in place the scratches couldnt be seen.....


well....thats what i done anyways....
