Hi all,

Time to bite the bullet and replace my headgasket. Ive battled coolant leaks for some time and everytime ive fixed one a new one appears. I believe the cooling system is over pressurising although no significant issues. Replaced all the obvious culprits to no avail. An airlock does appear in the top hose from time to time after a short drive which i believe is confirmation that its the HG considering everything else ive ruled out.

Was going to tackle it myself considering its not my daily driver and i can have it off the road for a while to take my time doing it. Looks like turner's engineering would be a good source of parts? (parts dont come in blue bags? )
Also was going to mark the bolts when it comes to their final torqueing rather than get a angle gauge thing. Is that easy enough to do or should I get the guage and save the hassle?

I’m not sure what you mean with the head bolts. Are you still replacing them with new ones? I thought it was just torque them down and then the various angles were pretty straight forward from there.

Re Turner's, very good to deal with when I had to rebuild a Tdi about 6.5 years ago, and most parts were genuine or better quality.

I’m not sure what you mean with the head bolts. Are you still replacing them with new ones? I thought it was just torque them down and then the various angles were pretty straight forward from there.Yeah replacing with new, if its straight forward than i wont worry about the gauge then, cheers

Yeah replacing with new, if its straight forward than i wont worry about the gauge then, cheers

I have one of those angle gauges. IMO it's more of a PITA than it's worth. As Slunnie said, the angles are straightforward. I DID mark the bolts, but I did it to show where I was up to in the sequence, as I'm easily distracted.
