Online Spectacles Vs Bricks & Mortar. ?

Older age has seen me wearing specs for the last 10 years or so, and mainly OPSM and the Pommy Savers. Silly me thought that OPSM was Australian owned, even if the work was done 'You Know Where', same as the Savers are... They are'nt.... Italian-business, Luxottica (speling?)

Anyway, my last OPSM frames would have to be one of the favourites - so it $hould be !. But the lenses were ridiculously prone to scratching and marking. Quite annoying as these were Blu-Blokkers and had every coating under the sun.
So I thought I'd try the other online companies and sent off my latest prescription.
Mixed reception. Lenses as good/bad as the locals, but the frame was made of absolute rubbish plastic or acetate..... Six months later it broke in two places. [bigsad]

Half an hour with a flexible nail file....and 'good' lenses hacked down to fit the OPSM frame. ! Now these are my 'Back-up' eyeglasses that we Bus Drivers are supposed to carry at all time...

Cost ? - Around $170 for 'normal' Progressive lenses.

These might be my next ones.... Mate from NZ has a pair that look VERY similar, and cost him a $quillion from over there..... Magnetic attachment is more attractive (sorry!) than the clamp-on flip-ups I'm using at the moment.... a source of most of the lens-scratches.[bigwhistle]

Yep, they were more expensive than S-S, but they had THE frames wot made me look more 'telligent.... (no mean feat) as they did to my middle-aged #1 son... Plastic frame with thin arms, good to go under a Comms headset....

I have been using the optical superstore for the last 10 years and have not had any issues - good frame selection, very competitive price but dont charge to put new lenses in your old frames - my current frames have their third set of lenses.

I will get a new frames next time around as I want matched clip on sunnies to go on the frames - any clipons I have had before do not match the frame shape so I will fix that next time.

Speccies for a 15 min "examination", then flog you some glasses and you're out the door. Heaven help you if you have any issues with them.

My wife runs her own independent optom practice. Has over $200k of gear onsite and is actually interested in your eye health. An appointment is min. 45 minutes. She has at least one per day that would say that was the most comprehensive eye test they had ever had, and she has picked up countless health issues that other optoms have missed over several years. Many people come back because they know their health will be looked after, not just flogged needless glasses. They are happy to pay for this.

She uses only top quality German lenses. People are happy to wait a fortnight for them as they are top quality. Not made in asia crap that others use...

Seems like Bunbury is THE place for competent medicos.- My Chiropropracter lives / operates there. Actually, a couple of them - Brothers. Not only have they not moved out of home..... they've got their rooms in the same building as their Old Man, a local GP. When he left an inland town, about 2 hours drive away, quite a few patients 'followed' him to Bunbury.
I've had to use his services - try not to over-use friends - and yes, he's also Thorough.

Edit. Today's mail contains an invitation to buy more of their scratchy lenses... Pity Bunbury is far away ....
