Due to where I usually drive I am in the habit of reading all the signs I come a cross. Sort of relieves the boredom.
During my travels I have found some interesting Creek names, rivers not so much, they seem to be named after people mainly.
I find the names interesting because it makes you think what happened here that they called it that?
A few from around here:
"Disappointment Creek"
"Dismal Creek"
"Capsize Creek"
And the one that gets me "Sandy Creek" which is all rocky?
BTW How many "Salt Water Creeks" are there? And isn't it about time all the "X Mile Creeks" got up to date & became "X.X Kilometer Creeks"?
Anyone have any interesting ones?

Then at Springurst, Vic, there are Diddah Diddah and Daddah Daddah creeks which you used to cross on the old Hume Highway, but the Hume Freeway doesn't cross Daddah Daddah.

I'm afraid that there are no very interesting creeks round here - Spring, Boomley, Sally's, Jones', Elong and, of course, Sandy. And a bit further away, Flyblowers Creek (probably referring to an old piece of equipment used in alluvial gold prospecting where there is a water shortage). But I think of the history encapsulated in some of the areas I have worked in Qld with Attack, Murder, Bony Creeks.

YMy Dad’s father was a part time surveyor/ bushman/ farmer/horseman ,and on his sojourns into the bush south west of Montumana, he named a creek after the last cup winner .
So now we have Newhaven.

Someone needs to pull their finger out and name one **** creek. Boating optional.
I get a chuckle driving the New Oxley Hwy and seeing Onus creek. Almost always with graffiti turning the capital O into a lower case 'a'.

Well not only is it a TV show, but supposedly a real town in Canada Schitt's Creek (town) | Schitt's Creek Wiki | Fandom (https://schitts-creek.fandom.com/wiki/Schitt%27s_Creek_(town)#:~:text=Schitt%27s%20Creek %20is%20a%20small,series%20of%20the%20same%20name. ), actually that is all made up, but if you want to visit the place it is filmed you can, Where Is the Real 'Schitt's Creek'? Over the weekend Saitch and I were discussing the naming of Mary Smokes Creek. Did she get sprung, did she make bacon, was it her surname?

I meant to tell you that I was on to that.
Reportedly named during early occupancy of Durundur Pastoral Run, because Mary ????? ( - ) wife of a shepherd on the Creek, smoked a pipe. Due to more accurate information available from topographic maps, the location co-ordinates were upgraded from 26°57'00" S 152°40'00" E on 13/02/2013.

There are too many 6 mile (your number of miles ) creek. They should set a quota for this and then set about renaming the rest. Neville Bonner suggested this many years ago, still think it was a good idea

Hospital Creek, an ironic name for a site where 400 Indigenous people were massacred by white settlers....
