After a good two years of guessing faults and paying for mechanics with limited readers I've bit the bullet and ordered a Gap Reader from Island 4x4. Besides troubleshooting my compressor issues what cool things should I do first with my new found powers?

I've just ordered one too and would also be interested to hear more about what people have used them for?

- Diagnosing a failing HPFP
- Diagnosing a faulty fuel burning heater and periodic test runs to keep it going
- Applying firmware patches to the ECU after the DPF had an untimely accident with a 4" grinder
- Jack the car up for maintenance (then just slide the jack stands in)
I also use it regularly just to monitor, particularly when towing. Stuff like post-turbo EGT, oil, coolant temps.
Periodic checks of the injector balance. Keeping an eye on the suspension.
Checking and resetting faults. The occasional tweak to the CCF.
I bought it originally to apply the DPF & EGR delete patches, but it has paid for itself time and time again in diagnostic and maintenance assistance that previously I was relying on a mechanic with an Autologic for.
As far as the D3 goes, it's probably second only to a smaller more reliable backup vehicle as a "must have" purchase.

Oddly enough, I rarely use mine. There’s never any need to.
I prefer my FaultMate or my T4 but they rarely get used either.
