View Full Version : Loss of power Disco 3

Went away for the weekend and travelled on 300km of corrugated roads.
All went well and ran like a dream. I then drove on a straight stretch of bitumen road for about 50km at a bit over 110km/hr and went really well. Parked up and all was good.

Started up next morning and went to drive it and had no power.

Symptoms- Long throttle travel. Very slow to increase rpm and road speed till the rpm reaches about 2000 and then picks up rapidly but throttle still not really responsive.

Exhaust Gas Recirculation B code P045C control circuit low

general failure information

Have searched posts and there is on with similar symptoms and it was suggested that it will need EGR replacement.
If so does anyone have any idea which one could be at fault

Any help pls.
Cheers

Good time to blank them.

Ok. So if the EGR needs to be replaced or blanked what is the for or agains the blanking option.

What will have to be done about the computer side of the situation.
Will I receive continual message Re. EGR

The blanking option sounds good to me.

What do the guru's think of the blanking option?

Thanks guys and gals

You need to have a Tuner do it,as far as I know,or you will have issues.
The Gap tool will do the tune but I don't know about the EGR.

Someone may chime in with more info.

Had mine done with the tune, no issues at all, that was d4 2.7l.

Regarding the computer side of things, it depends on what year your D3 is....the earlier ones 2005 and maybe 2006? (don't quote me [smilebigeye]) didn't need anything done, but later ones you do need to have something done to ECU. Either a BAS tune (if they support your year of D3) - which can then be loaded with a GAP tool. Or, as has been previously mentioned getting a tune done.

I haven't had mine blanked yet but do intend to in future. Mine is a 2007 build and will likely require a tune. Let us know how go if you do decide to blank. Will be interested to see.

This is from the Workshop manual but are not quite the same codes.

P0405-21 Exhaust Gas Recirculation
Sensor A Circuit Low - signal
amplitude < minimum
Right-hand Exhaust Gas
Recirculation (EGR) sensor
circuit low - signal
amplitude less than
minimum
EGR valve position sensor
circuit short circuit to
ground
EGR valve position sensor
fault
Check the right-hand Exhaust Gas Recirculation
(EGR) sensor and circuits. Refer to the
electrical circuit diagrams. Using a data logger
function, check the EGR valve angle. With the
ignition on, engine off, command the valve
actuator to 0% pulse width modulated (PWM),
and then to 100% pulse width modulated
(PWM) and recheck the EGR valve angle. The
value should range from 0 - 20% to 80 - 95%.
If this is not the case, install a new sensor.
Clear the DTCs and test for normal operation

P0406-22 Exhaust Gas Recirculation
Sensor A Circuit High - signal
amplitude > maximum
Right-hand Exhaust Gas
Recirculation (EGR) sensor
circuit high - signal
amplitude greater than
maximum
EGR valve position sensor
circuit short circuit to power
EGR valve position sensor
fault
Check the right-hand Exhaust Gas Recirculation
(EGR) sensor and circuits. Refer to the
electrical circuit diagrams. Using a data logger
function, check the EGR valve angle. With the
ignition on, engine off, command the valve
actuator to 0% pulse width modulated (PWM),
and then to 100% pulse width modulated
(PWM) and recheck the EGR valve angle. The
value should range from 0 - 20% to 80 - 95%.
If this is not the case, install a new sensor.
Clear the DTCs and test for normal operation

P0407-21 Exhaust Gas Recirculation
Sensor B Circuit Low - signal
amplitude < minimum
Right-hand Exhaust Gas
Recirculation (EGR) throttle
position sensor circuit low -
signal amplitude less than
minimum
EGR throttle position
sensor circuit short circuit
to ground
Check the EGR throttle position sensor and
circuits. Refer to the electrical circuit diagrams.
If no fault is found in the circuits, install a new
EGR valve. Clear the DTCs and test for normal
operation
DTC Description Possible Causes Action
EGR throttle position
sensor circuit high
resistance
Exhaust Gas Recirculation
(EGR) sensor fault

After reading articles and comments on AULRO for 2 days now I have come to the conclusion that I can do without the EGR valves and the coolers as well.
I have decided to remove the lot and re-rout the hoses as I have read there may be trouble in the future with either the coolers and or the blanked EGR's.
Sounds like a better option to alleviate the problem occurring while in a remote area.
As for the tune as I have a 08my. I will do the blank off myself and get the tune done professionally.

Thanks to everyone for reading my posts and giving me advice and feedback.

Without this forum I would not be able to own a Disco and certainly not do my own work.

Cheers Everyone
