Gday everyone. My 2011 Discovery 4 occasionally flashes through the amber warning light sequence on the dash and the suspension seems to lower, it has increased of late (144,000k), if you touch the ride height button while this is going on it will say suspension lowered for safety.
When this happens I stop and turn the car off for a minute or so, restart, and it seems to re-set and be ok for a while - but is unpredictable, sometimes it shows a message as you move off saying, normal height selected and all is good for sometimes long periods.
Could anyone please shed any light on what may be the cause of this issue and what would need to be done to rectify it? Other than this particular, hopefully minor issue, (and a failed aircon compressor that will need replacing before next summer), the car is fantastic and I plan on keeping it for the long haul.
I'm loacted on the North West Coast of Tasmania and would really appreciate finding a mechanic that knows Landrovers.

I would really appreciate any advice thanks.

The fault codes really need to be read. Lowering for safety indicates a fault is occurring with the ABS ecu but the codes will indicate what is amiss.
Many owners have bought their own diagnostic tool for convenience and likely cost savings over time, especially if they do any work themselves.

Justin Cooper on here is the LR guru in Tassy.
But he may be a bit far from you.

As Graeme said, reading the codes is the only way to find out what is going on, without doing this, you are just guessing.

Thanks scarry, would you have Justins contact number/details, I'm heading south with the van on the 17th so checking with him would be no problem. Phill.

Have had it suggested I get the battery tested as when they start to die they can cause all sorts of issues with the electronics.

Makes sense as the car is lucky to be used once a week and have had to jump start it a few times when have left the doors and tailgate open for too long obviously draining it, battery is about 3 years old now.

Assuming battery and alternator all ok, next place to look is the EAS compressor. The dessicant turns to dust and blocks the valves at each corner. The compressor is serviceable and air lines and valves can be blown out.

Note its perfectly normal for the car to go to normal height from access height if the speed is over 25kmh.

Also check earth connections to the chassis and body from the battery.

Update.

So had a new battery installed yesterday by RACT, they (and Justin) said the old battery wasn't the right one (too small), but it's been in the car for a bit over 3 years now so I guess has done a pretty good job considering.

Started way easier and drove for a bit over 2 hours today and no issues, now off to Justin on Monday morning for a check over.

Thanks everyone for your in-put, much appreciated.

So Justin Cooper is a dead set legend, and a gentleman. Heading from the north west with van in tow to see Justin, car has done 146k and into limp mode we go, turns out to be a split inlet manifold, tracked down by Justin in a few seconds and at the same time he discovered a faulty brake light switch which in combination with what later turned out to be a dying alternator, was causing the fault issue.

All fixed, and Justin recommends replacing the alternator and doing the timing belts and service gearbox, so booked in to be done in two weeks. Well, the alternator decided to die two days later! Thankfully we were still close and Justin goes out of his way to fix it. The rest is done now and she's running like a dream again.

So all good now and Justin's service and willingness to help with super high quality and professional advice is just awesome. Was looking at up-grading to a 14/15 model but after discussing with and listening to Justin, will be keeping the old girl for a good while to come now. Will be taking to Justin for a good check-up at a minimum of once a year from now on.

Thank you for your help and pointing me in Justin's direction.
