FYI Thought I would tell of my recent experience of running out of fuel in my TDV6. Low fuel came on and after 60km car started to splutter so I pulled over then emptied 20L jerry can into her. Although I had read the manual on running out of fuel I chose to ignore that.
Started car, every 6 sec revs would drop/splutter for .5 sec then back to normal idle. After a few minutes of this I thought, well it will surely come good soon so I drove off. Car still spluttered every 6 sec and fuel light was still on. After less than 1km car stopped and coasted to a halt on the side of the road. Rather than panic and being 600km from Perth, I decided to follow the out of fuel procedure that I read about in the manual only 15 minutes ago which goes; fill car with at least 4L, turn ignition On (but don't start), leave like this for 5mins for car systems to reset/calibrate. I then added these steps just to be sure, turn the car off, waited until asleep (the car that is), locked, then unlocked, started it and drove off into the sunset happy as a clam. Not sure if my added steps helped or not but that's what I did so thought I'd mention them here.
Pays to read the instructions (and follow them) every now and then.
