I loved seeing some of the old footage today how even the queen was a acknowledging his “lack of opinions”. It shows a great sense of humor and affection between them.
Yes he said a few things that the woke brigade gets upset by. But I don’t think he was a bad person nor had any malicious intend.
My daughters switched off from tiktok today as the hatred on there was rather vile. Just demonstrates to me that many people really don’t get it.
I hope the Queen is ok, must be so hard for her.
I'm not on TikTok so I have no idea what has been posted.

Married for 70 years, this could be the catalyst for the Queen to step down. There will be a huge hole in her life, that Royal duties just will not fill. Hope she elects to go and smell the roses, she's more than earned it.

To be serious for a moment, the New Idea was the only media I could find that discussed the Royals , and the Queens abdication. It's almost as though they have been relegated to the social pages, and not taken seriously in the main stream. One thing I know, Queen Elizabeth will be only the second Queen, after Victoria, to finish her reign a widow. Victoria stopped almost all her Royal duties , and wore black for many years. Can't see Elizabeth R doing that. The Queen deserves some time for herself, I hope she doesn't die in the saddle.

The residents of the Island of Tanna, part of Vanuatu, have elevated Philip to a high level. Has anyone had the impact the Prince has had?
The heavily spiritual group around the village of Yaohnanen and surrounding villages felt the Duke of Edinburgh was the reincarnation of an ancient warrior who left the island to fight a war and who, legend foretold, would return with a rich white wife.
But Chief Jack Naiva, one of the paddlers of a traditional war canoe which greeted the royal yacht, was quoted as saying: "I saw him standing on the deck in his white uniform. I knew then that he was the true messiah."
Tanna elders later sent Prince Philip a "nal nal" hunting club. He replied by sending back a picture of himself holding the club. The photo has become a cherished religious icon on Tanna.

It is very sad he has passed now, the Queen must be absolutly devastated. And all the hatred is shocking (especially the sexist comments about him but he took a back seat to his lady for a very long time, in a time where men normally in charge, so how anyone can ever say he was those thigns is beyond me) He was a big regal goofball. Both the Queen and Prince Philip had stepped back from a lot of official duties over the last decade. These roles had then been passed on to various people in the next generation. Suppose this gives a sort of hand over period so they can become comfortable with what is required while having the years of experience to fall back on if required. Would not expect the Queen to abdicate just do less public duties
Until the current monarch it was normal for the King to be shall we say aged when being crowned and to only reign 10 or 20 years. The young person is only due to the circumstances the Queen came to the throne. It was not so long ago the media wanted her to abdicate so the next generation could take over. Now they want that generation to be by passed so the current young generation can take over

Prince Philip visited Brisbane quite a few times. Not always for big public events. Was familiar enough with the city road network that could tell when was not being taken by the most direct route
Friend who was in the Police group that looked after dignitaries reckoned he was the only one who would pull them up and want to go the shortest route not the ‘safe’ route. No good telling him this was the short route as he was able to say which way they should be going and this was not it

Just located this “image” of Prince Phillip in MG TC/1362
On April 23rd 2016 at the Chippenham Auction Rooms in London, a rare handwritten letter written in 1947 by the then 21 year old Princess Elizabeth,
was sold for US $20,880.00
It revealed how Prince Phillip’s MG TC, which he purchased on 25th September 1946, played a role in his courtship of the future queen.
The letter was sent to Betty Shew who was writing the official souvenir book called, “The Royal Wedding”.
In her letter Princess Elizabeth recalled how the young couple drove each other around London and were at one point even chased by photographers.
The princess remembered, “Philip enjoys driving and does it fast! He has his own tiny M.G. which he is very proud of - he has taken me about in it,
once up to London, which was great fun, only it was like sitting on the road, and the wheels are almost as high as one’s head."
"On one, and only one occasion, we were chased by a photographer which was disappointing.”
Sadly, there is no contemporary record of what may have happened to this black with green upholstery royal MG TC/1362
(registration plate XHD 99) or if it exists to this day. [smilebigeye]

The Duke of Edinburgh, whose funeral will be on Saturday, was a car aficionado who bought the 1935 Standard Nine for 12 pounds when he was based in Colombo with the British Navy in 1940.

Prince Philip’s love of carriage driving to be remembered at funeral | Prince Philip | The Guardian (https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2021/apr/16/prince-philips-love-of-carriage-driving-to-be-remembered-at-funeral)
Polished dark green carriage that he rode in his 90s will be on procession route at Windsor Castle

Right into his 90s, the Duke of Edinburgh continued to drive his team of fell ponies around the royal estates from the box seat of a carriage he designed himself.
He took up the sport of carriage driving in his 50s when what he called his “dodgy” arthritic wrist forced him to give up polo playing, and continued competing into his 80s. In more recent years he could still be seen driving, reins in hand, just for fun.
His horse-drawn wheeled carriage and his black fell ponies, Balmoral Nevis and Notlaw Storm, both born in 2008, will be a poignant feature of his funeral. The polished dark green four-wheeled carriage, accompanied by two of Philip’s grooms, will stand in the Quadrangle at Windsor Castle as the duke’s coffin is carried past in a procession on a Land Rover hearse.
The carriage was built to his specifications eight years ago and can seat four people and harness up to eight horses. It has two padded black leather seats and a clock mounted on brass at the front, presented by the Queen’s Royal Irish Hussars in 1978 to mark his 25 years as their colonel-in-chief.
Philip had been designing driving carriages since the 1970s. “I am getting old, my reactions are getting slower, and my memory is unreliable, but I have never lost the sheer pleasure of driving a team through the British countryside,” he said in a book he authored about the sport.
Towards the end of the 1980s he ceased driving four-in-hand teams, but he continued to drive competitively with teams of ponies, eventually retiring from the sport in 2003, though he still took part non-competitively in his 90s.
The Countess of Wessex, in a tribute this week at Windsor, recalled that Philip had been “pulled out of a few ditches here, I seem to remember”.

Mario, do you think they will be unduly worried if they are dug up? I don't, it seems to happen all the time with building excavations & Car parks in the UK. One would hope that once buried you would stay there forever & forever & forever.
Probably best to get the oven treatment & the rellies can take you with them where ere they go ie. To the beach, take you on hols, down to the park & Grans, Xmas Celebrations, Gay Pride Parade/Mardi Gras, etc the list is endless. A sort of Porta Potty as it were. That is, if they don't leave you in the wardrobe when they shut up home & move on, callous bastards. Or in the Loft or outside Loo.?
NB. When I say YOU I don't mean you, but just generalising you understand.[bigrolf]
Richard III was recently dug up from under a Leicester Car park in the UK https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P8QDa1zuUd4
I bet that cost him a pretty Penny in Parking Charges.[biggrin] I 'm guessing he wasn't too bothered but Sir Laurence Olivier must have thought he was ok.
500 Years @ 4 quid an hour (allowing for inflation of course.). Someone should dig deep. Oh hang on, they have haven't they?[bigrolf] (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P8QDa1zuUd4)
