Unless there are any unforeseen circumstances, True and I will be coming :) . Are we going to convoy on the Friday? Steinzy when you say you have booked camping etc is that for everyone, or do we have to organise own, if so is it at a particular site or just in general. Will have a look at the link in the interim see if I cant work out myself

I have booked site 60 but I doesn't really matter as the camping is on a first in best dressed basis. I'm wanting to get up there on Friday to reserve a spot big enough for us so if anyone is wants to come up with me they are more than welcome

A little off topic, but I was looking at the reference page where tracks are rated and it mentioned recovery kits.
So , what would be expected to be in a basic recovery kit and a comprehensive recovery kit and also a comprenhesive self recovery kit.
Also, can anyone who went to the boonah weekend a month or so ago remember what the tracks were rated at?

hey anthony

being my first time as a trip leader i think i over rated the trackes, i had only ever driven the tracks with landcruisers and nissians, after seeing how well the landies went it was all a walk in the park, well pretty much

although it was low range most of the time i'm guessing the gold coast club would have rated as blue with maybe a touch of red

i am interested in what it would have been rated as if it was a gold coast trip

An absolute basic recovery kit would be a snatch strap, 2 D shackles and some leather gloves.

Our club minimum requirements for all members is: 1 x Snatch, 2 x Rated Shackles, 1 x pair leather gloves, 1 x pair steel-capped boots, Rated Front & Rear Vehicle Recovery Points, 1 x UHF in-car or handheld.

Suggested Additional equipment is: Toolkit, fire extinguisher, winch strap, tree trunk protector, snatch block, hand winch, electric/hydraulic winch, rated chain, shovel, hydraulic jack, hi-lift jack, air-compressor.

Thanks for the replys.
What rating should the recovery points be. I have some on my car but don't know what they would be rated at.

Weeds, with the nissans and tojos at boonah, in what way were they struggling to complete the tracks? With my car and a couple of others which are basically standard , we made it through o.k. I haven't done much 4wdriving and haven't compared different cars performance , so i am interested in your comment.

I will have to make the time to do the driver awareness program soon, it should be a good experience.

Hey mate, you can get a permit from the caravan park, its on the foreshore from memory. In terms of where we are camping, Im a little unsure myself though it is on the beach. Try UHF 33, or conversely try my mobile 0402 849 227 in case we can get reception. Otherwise will get message to someone to post once we have got a place,

you get the permits from the caravan park on the CALM SIDE up before the jetty (next to the bowls club) at bongaree, NOT at the surf side caravan park.

What a great, relaxing weekend, thanks to all for a fantastic time and special thanks to Steinzy as trip leader and tour guide:D , though I beat ya, I beat ya on the way home  . Twas a great way to spend a couple of days, though methinks might get a smaller tent rather than the taj mahal for the short breaks , thanks to Louie for his expertise in helping to pack it down . Have some pics and will post later, need to go and have a nice hot shower, hmmm . Good to get to know Nathan, Michelle and little Cooper, and last night was what it is all about, good talk, laughs and plenty of brew :)

Hey Weeds, we were at campsite 60 up at Ocean Beach, great spot, we had 4 tent campsites and 2 camper trailers, nice and protected and just a short stroll to the beach. Can't say about other sites as I dont think anyone had a look bar Xbox at 61 from memory,

looks like you lot had fun,
i got to boonaroo [?] about 2.00 on sat, found the ticket seller and for $32.00 decided that i wasn't going to get on the beach up to see you - i had two hours free after an unexpectedly long morning, so it just wasn't a goer for $16 per hour.
the tourist center guide didn't help either, with his description of the island, but he only pedalled up the beach once.

Thanks Stevo for the pics - looks like you had fun. Ended up working on Saturday :glare: and family decided that they wanted to go boating on Sunday as we didn't do it on Saturday, so was out voted to head up to Bribie, you get that on the big jobs;) .

Hey Steinzy nice roof rack, is that for carrying "sign boards" :D

Yep that's the one!!!

Pity you couldn't make it up as it was a great weekend.

And Laoded Disco - you have no idea how much you mess out not taking the disco up the beach:o

Was a great weekend and thanks to all who came along. Was great to see a couple of new faces with Nathan & Michelle in the twin sunroof disco (which I thought was unique but apparantly all the ES in the S1 disco's had them:( )

Friday...

Made the Trip up and arrived on the Island about 2pm after a short stop at the caravan park to grap Beach and Camping permits we headed to the servo to grab fuel and bait where we met up with x-box.

Then we journeyed on the the beach access point and headed up the beach through very soft sand to the campsite.

After setting up the campsite and a few cold crownies later we cooked dinner then at about 8pm wandered down the beach to wet the lines.

In the distance we watched the lights approaching from the other end of the island (cos the fish wern't biting). then the mobile rang and Camo and Zoe were wanting to know it they were close... and 20min later they arrived. Back to the campsite to wet the lips with more crownies.

Stay tuned for day 2 (Saturday)
