Incisor,

Did you happen to see whether there is also a model for D2 rear gutter corners?

I could do with two of those.

Cheers, Andrew

Cheers, AndrewJust had a look while doing a few other things to the car and these models of Inc's look like fronts?

So yep, we need to find rears, too. [emoji16]

Umm, isn't that what these are? [emoji848]

I think that what Incisor pictured is the roof-gutter END, where the guttering stops at each upper corner of the windscreen.
So, at the front of the car.
One end slides into the guttering, the other forms an open spout.

I was asking whether there might also be a model for the piece that goes around the rear corners, so one end would tuck into the side guttering, and the other into an end of the rear guttering section.

Looking at the photos in the Britcar site the rear corners are part of the long side, the pieces up and over the rear door are separate.
Both of those parts are now obsolete but NOS is kicking around.

I'm putting an order in to Mario tomorrow for some other bits and pieces so I'm asking if he's able to source anything so we can then use that as a pattern.

Can I ask how long the printer worked to produce that prototype?

that was done in draft mode so only took 3.5hrs

a final print will take 4hrs a side then 20 mins to clean up when you remove the supports etc

I've only used ABS to date.
The support required looked scary when I first saw the model!
If printing in ABS I would delete off the bottom leg and print the two pieces separately, which would save a heap of support. ABS is very easy to join pieces using Acetone as a solvent.

true.. strength would be my worry...

abs you need to allow for shrinkage and warping etc,

asa is way better with less fumes but is dearer and better in the sun so i use it for my stuff these days

i can thin the supports down as i tweak it, especially when i print it on the prusa

cheersI've had ABS printed roof bar bases on my D4 for over 6 years now with no noticable UV degredation. Would be better still if I'd painted them.

I've found managing warping much easier now I'm printing on a glass bed. No lifting when hot, and it releases nicely when cooled.

I tried a roll of PETG for better strength etc but there was no way I could get any bed adhesion. So went back to ABS as an ABS slurry on glass is so easy to manage....

At the moment I'm printing off a 160-89mm dia reducer for the airfilter box for my series FC build.
Cheers,

try windex... works a treat even with abs on my gear at least

i have no trouble with petg adhesion, a tad too much most of the time

have glass bed on the ender for the moment but smooth and textured pei magnetic sheets are due this week..

prusa already has that..

tpu gives me the most trouble but am almost on top of it now and am test printing some series wiper motor gaskets to see where i am at...

what sort of printer you got ?

Windex, haven't heard of that one. I'll look it up.
I've got a Balco which is a prusa knockoff.
I've burnt through a couple of boards so now run a relay for the bed heater. I would have put kilometres of filament through it. It just keeps going...

hell yeah.. you have to have the direction of print going the right way to suit where the loads are... thats half the battle..

having a design is the easy bit sometimes... getting a print that does whats needed isn't always easy and you have to work out layer heights, placement on the bed, speeds and feed rates not to mention what angles to lay things at to get the strength in the right spots...

then you get to play with temps and filaments..

can be a challenge to get things done on a printer vs get something moulded etc etc

Recently finished this in ABS. It is a 160dia to 88dia adaptor for an airbox inlet. Printed in three sections and solvent joined together. I will "paint" it with the ABS slurry which closes up any layer defects and increases strength. Then a couple of hits with some spray putty plus sanding, then a coat of enamel to finish it off.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210415/6c0c7f75e3b15ce2ffba2aad40753e71.jpg

one set done and they have turned out very well...

next set under way

printed in black ASA which is strong and sun / UV stable

will do first few sets for $18 the pair plus $12 postage if you want them posted

they look better in real life than they do in pics... printed stuff always looks harsher in phone pics for some reason

easy to sand and paint to whatever colour you like, if you wish... ASA and supercheap primer etc go well together...

Hi All,

This is my first post as a new member, so I hope it's not out of line to ask if I could order a pair of these drip rails for '02 Disco 2, in WA?

I'll do a proper intro msg in the appropriate spot, but this is the first thread I checked out and it's exactly what I'm looking for. Either way, I'd like to say well done on the prints!!!
That is truly exciting stuff and hold heaps of potential for keeping these beauties looking fresh. Really, really cool!

A few notes to those fitting the gutter fittings.

they are printed in eSun ASA which as about as good as it gets for durability / strength on the outside of a vehicle

You can and probably will need to sand them to get the best finish.

the usual auto sanding process with wet and dry should work just fine. you can use a file or sander but you would need to be a tad careful not to induce too much heat etc.

you can use the likes of supercheap auto primer in a spray can then apply any colour you may wish to apply.

i suggest you try fitting them prior to painting as you may need to use a heat gun or hair drier to get the best fit.

You can apply moderate force but bear in mind these are printed parts not moulded parts and although they have the durability they may not have the strength of the original part.

do not apply too much heat as it will induce warping and excessive shrinkage if you get them too hot.

i do not own a D2 so i cannot test fit them prior to delivery.
