Hello people,

300tdi auto, as the title says, I was driving along and just lost drive, in all gears, even park doesn't seem to engage.

Over the last few months there have been occasions when reverse had needed a few attempts to engage but otherwise nothing to suggest a problem, today the speedo stopped working for about 60 seconds then sprang back into life, may or may not be related.

I consider myself very fortunate that I was just pulling out of the side road I live in when this happened, another the Miami's would have seen me in trouble on the motorway, that wouldn't have been fun for anyone.

So, if anyone had any ideas where to start looking I would be very grateful to hear from you, I've never had an ounce of trouble from an auto box before so this is all new to me.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions

Check the fluid level but I'd suspect the flex plate has failed.

check the oil then check the tcase range selector first, engage the CDL see what that does in high and low.

if that does nothing, try manually selecting 1.

Thanks everyone, turns out I'm an idiot,

The transfer case had gone into neutral, didn't make a sound when it did it, thanks for the check it suggestion, I'm back on the road.

Thanks again

Ha that's funny!
Reminded me of a time in my old 2 door Rangie heading up the Strezlecki track about 2001, at speed at the start of a trip. Into a deep bull-dust stretch and with a few bounces, lost drive. Initially thought the worst and felt pretty ****ed off to have a major mechanical at the start of a much awaited trip. I was so delighted when I realised that it was just the TC selector - and off we went.

You're not the first, and you won't be the last.. coupla months ago I had finished putting an auto in my D2. Yay, the car drove under its own steam for the first time in 3 years.... drove out the driveway and it stopped. Given its history my first thought was **** NO! Then sanity prevailed, I pulled the lever back and away we went.
