Hi All.

I have question and any advice/logic would be appreciated.

In my 2001 TD5 D2, I have a completely dead Instrument Panel (IP) after the car has been sitting for a few year, with some interior condensation.

I have used the RAVE to check grounds C0230 17 and 18 and volts to C0230 19 and 20, to rule out out bad earth and fuses, and all appears OK.

My IP has no lights except for High Beam indicator and the SRS light. Which look to be on different circuits.

My IP is otherwise dead, no lights on start up at all, and not Tacho, temp or fuel gauge. I assume speedo doesn't work, but I haven't driven it to test that yet, I assume it is dead too.

All other electrics seems to work. Keys, Immo, external indicators. So.. probably wrongly, I am mostly suspicious of the IP at this time, rather than the BCU.

I am looking to get a s/hand IP and BCU and swap out the IP first to see what I get, I know I can do that without too much issue, just a flashing ODO.

My question is, if I swap out a BCU without a Nanocomm etc. to see if my IP lights up. Can I swap back to get back my IMMO and keyc etc, until I get access to a Nanocom, or will everything get out of sync, and the original BCU will no longer work as it did.

Thanks in advance...

Hi, start with the IP cos that's the main suspect if you have those voltages and earths OK, the BCU would not stop the warning lights to execute theyr's self test after ignition cos that's managed by the IP's electronics also the battery and oil pressure warnings have no link to the BCU

Thanks very much for your input. I wasn't sure where the power on self test function is performed. It makes sense that it is executed in the IP, and that further bolsters my suspicions. I am just mentally preparing myself for when it is not the problem.. :)

I have both an IP and BCU out of a 2000 if that's any help. 10 mins from you.

[EDIT] Hmm, no BCU anymore, but still have IP.

Thanks JayTee.

I have ordered a second-hand IP. So fingers crossed.

Appreciate the offer though.

Just for thread completion. I didn't have to swap out my BCU in the end.

All the tests i preformed pointed towards a dead Instrument Panel, and in fact it was.

I got a S/H IP plugged it in and all is functioning perfectly. I have the flashing ODO as expected, but I was lucky enough to get a IP with lower Ks on it then my BCU.

I hear it will sync up to the highest(my original Ks) after a certain number of cycles. Let's see.

Happy with a functional IP though...
