This seems like a good idea, definitely an improvement on my my idea of tying a rope around a tyre, letting some air out in the hope of getting the tyre to compress in the centre to stop the rope coming off sideways and using that as a winch, similar to this Bush Winch » Self Recovery Systems | Outback Driving (https://www.bushwinch.com/)

It’d be interesting fitting a bog out to both tyres in some situations..... which would be needed for open diffs.
Other concern might be brake lines, calipers, ABS cables.

Wouldn't be a whole lot of fun packing them up again afterwards.

Just stuff them in a water proof bag, and then put them in the washing machine when the wife's not home. [biggrin]

It may not be so bad as one could tie them to the top of the tyre/s and it will pull them under the mud/water etc., when the wheel spins You raise and interesting point though, I've never understood why people have their winch cable hooked on an eye under the car, as it is going to be buried in mud when they get stuck. If I had a winch I'd have mine hooked round the driver's mirror so hopefully I can just hand it to someone when I get stuck and not get my suede moccasins dirty. [biggrin]

If you are worried about getting dirty, why are you playing in mud?

It wouldn’t work for me. I can’t tie simple knots - they would either come undone when the recovery was started or be impossible to undo when finished.

That second one is a new twist (!) on an old idea. I've seen the flanges bolted to the wheel to make steps used like that.

I opened the link in the first post of this thread the other day out of curiosity. now I can't watch a youtube clip without getting 3 different ads for the damn things. With a proper winch at both ends of my 130, they are targeting the wrong person.
WRT the winch cable- I often hook mine up somewhere accessible when approaching terrain where I might need it.
