OK Lads
Someone out there must have managed to extract the head restraints from the front seats on a 1996 Defender.
I've pulled, pushed and shanken it all around but they're not moving.
Any ideas would be very helpful before I get out the hacksaw??

:o Crikey
Remove Seat Back from Vehicle
Remove Upholstery
Detatch the Head Restraint bracket from the seat back assembly
Soundly curse LR for letting a Phsycologically unsound 12 year old with a Meccano set design the interior of the Defender :DIn other words NFI, Good Luck

While on the subject of Defender headrests, is anyone aware of aftermarket headrests for the rear seat backs. I've seen them mounted to a cargo barrier but am looking for other possibilities.

Yeah, that would be good to know... although I kind-of like the idea of screwing them direct to the cargo barrier...

I think Exmoor trim in the UK sell replacement seats with backs incorporating headrests. Problem would be folding them.

Yes. Seen those highback Exmoor seats and as you say, the problem is the restricted folding. For the same reason I don't care for a cargo barrier as it restricts the ability to use all the space when the seats are folded.
I had aftermarket removable headrests in mind.

Whilst shopping for a Defender recently, I called about one in QLD. The guy told me he had head-rests fitted to the back seat for his kids. They weren't on the cargo barrier:o
He said he'd taken it somewhere, they'd removed the back vinyl to access the frame, and placed slide-in headrests that could be removed for folding the seat down. - How clever is that!!! Maybe someone should email it to Land Rover, I've seen someone test drive a Defender, fall in love with it, then sit in the back, and say "I'm not putting my kids in this seat - I'm buying a 100 Series." And he would have, except he didn't have the heart to take the 100 Series off road.
Sorry to move the conversation to the back seat.

I have got a 2004 Defender, and after about three or four goes I just yanked them out. There was a spring clip on the bottom each side very much like a piece of mainspring from a clock.

(snip)..... and say "I'm not putting my kids in this seat - I'm buying a 100 Series." (snip)

My kids & grandkids have liked it or lumped it in the back of the 110 for the last thirteen years - no real complaints (about the seats - they think the aircon/heating/choice of music could all be improved), although they seem to prefer the side facing seats.

So where did you get your aftermarket ones from P38ace?
Michael2
??? I have not got any. The sliding ones you describe are what I'm looking for too.:)
It's good to hear that someone has already successfully done it. I suspect a spare set of front seat head rests may be worth a try as it sounds like the bracket justs bolts on.
Your right though, something as simple as this could easily be fixed by Land Rover to make the interior instantly more appealing to family owners.

I went back & re-read your reply and editted out that particular sentence P38ace, obviously not before you picked up on my error.
Well, let me know if you find any solutions, I'll post any solutions I find on the forum too, though it's probably worth starting a new thread.
