Suspension Fault - Appeared then Disappeared...should I be concerned?

Currently on Fraser Island, driving today around the tracks to the inland lakes. Went through a jarring ditch, and a 'Suspension Fault' error displayed on the dash and the for the remainder of the trip back to our campsite we were clearly without any shock absorbing suspension, but remained in off-road clearance height. After a jarring return trip, I checked for error details with the GAP IID tool... none showing relating to suspension... cleared a few minor ones. Restarted the Disco, retested for faults. None showing, noting displaying on the dash... and took it for a test drive. No issues. Can anyone suggest what has happened here? Did I just jar the teeth out of the Disco and it set off a precautionary fault? Why would a dash fault error not display as a fault in the GAP IID?

Perplexed, but happy that things seem to have resolved themselves.... for now at least. Welcome some expert opinions.

I had the same once but I recall I think I got bump stops. I was going through a very rough section up a hill and was using all the suspension. In fact I had jacked it up a little with the IID so I think I probably got max height on a sensor. It faulted and sank mid climb. Powered it off. Waited. Started up, raised it back up and had another crack at the hill successfully. I did have a brown stain at the time though thinking that was the end of my day, a long way from home.

This doesn't seem right. The level of damping is not dynamically controlled. There's either air in the bags or there is not. The shock absorbers either work to specs or they degrade gradually over time. I suspect your suspension had dropped to the bump stops (or near to them) as the system was receiving incompatible signals. This was reset after your restart.

Or more likely it was in extended or super extended which gives a harsh ride because the airbags are at higher pressure to keep the vehicle at an increased height and thus the ride is equally as harsh

Hi Diesel, No it didn’t make sense to me either. It was still displaying on the dash and height selector that it was at off-road height...but behaved as if it were on the bump stops. Agree, it looked to have been jarred into a fault reading and all cleared with a restart.

Hi Jeffster...haha, yes I had similar concerns that I might have a suspension issue...being on Fraser, day 2 of 7 on the island and week 6 of a 6 month half lap of Oz :-)

I wasn’t in any IID contrived extended height mode...I haven’t been brave enough to use the GAP for that, and given today, I’ll probably stick to the standard heights :-)

The bump you hit just threw a sensor out of range causing the error. On the GAP tool one of your sensors is going to be reading fairly differently. That’ll be the one that have the fault.

You should have rebooted before attempting to drive back to camp as soon as you were above the tide line. [emoji41]

The gap tool has a setting for fault codes, you can choose whether it'll display "pending codes" I think the setting is. I had the same when my inlet manifold let go. No codes until I find the right setting. I'll try and screen shot for you

Thanks for all the good advice on GAP tool fault reading, I was just relying on the ‘all faults’ display rather than digging for sensor faults ....and good to know that like a PC, first step to take when in doubt is to turn the beast off and on again to reboot!
