hey guys
i want to change the colour of the light that lights up the speedo etc in my dash (discovery 96 MY)
you know the one that is the awful green colour........
i would like to make it blue so it matches my stereo.......
i'm assuming that all it is in there is a green filter over a white bulb haven't actually puled the dash off so don't know if i'm wrong please correct me.
so if it is a filter any one know where i might be able to get one!! in blue..
also just so people know i have looked into getting a dash kit.......if you buy from karcraft the kit costs $1250  if you buy from the uk it is £99 for a FULL kit and if you buy from the states i think you can get them for as little as $65 u.s
you might not be interested, but neither would i have been if i thought that all the kits cost $1250 <<< bloody rip offf
ok thanks for any help that might be given

whats a dash kit.....?
if its simply little condoms over the globes....jaycar should have them......
otherwise.....coloured LEDs may be fitted to do the job you want.....and these wont burn out......

I had mine out the other day to replace the globes as they had blown. No green cover over the globes in the Speedo as there are on most VDO gauges. Have not checked the rest but assume these should have the covers as they are standard VDO gauges. If the speedo is a coloured diffuser the back of the speedo would have to come off I think to access it, but I could not see anything. You may find that the speedo card itself may be coloured.

I have used L.E.d's of different colours in gauges and the good thing about this is they don't blow good for those hard to change ones.

in regards to zooks what's a dash kit
it basically means a kit that you can stick on over your excisting dash and heater controls to change the look
i.e my'n is just black at the moment and to cover it you can get wood or simulated carbon, brushed aluminium that sort of thing

Paul/Defender200Tdi bought a blue LED harness/kit for the instrument cluster from the UK a year or two back. Page or PM him for details.

I know blue might be nice to match the stereo - but are you sure you want the eye-strain? Blue is, without a doubt, the hardest colour to see at night.

If you change the dash to blue what about the climate control, various buttons and all the other lights throughout the dash. It would be easier to get and alpine cd player with a green background probably cheaper as well
Alternatively by some rose coloured sunglasses then the whole world could be red

Aye, that I did.
In my opinion they look great in a Defender, and they are way easier to read then the dull green glow before.

I got them direct from the UK. There are kits available for Discos too, both 200 & 300.

My eyes are tired from just looking at those two photos.
Blue looks dark.
But who takes to much notice of whats going on down there anyway when driving.

Actually, they're very easy to see at night, and certainly a lot brighter and clearer than the original green of the Defender. I guess the photos just don't do them justice.

most digital camera's dont take night shots very well, I like the lights
Dullbird the lights are for a disco aren't they?

yes the lights are for a disco
hey paul can you let me know where you got the kit from......
and in response to the climate control lights if i had the material i would turn them blue also by changing the red and blue colour filter to blu and dark blue think that would look cool as i rekon......
and it would also be in keeping with my heater controls as well because even when i got hot air coming out car doesn't usually warm until i get to work anyway;) so the blue wouldn't be out of place.......
but i have a feeling that some of the dash kit may possibly cover that any way, but not a hundred percent sure

Just looked at the Ebay kit. Only does the three main instruments. Nothing for the fan, heater, air con, cig lighter, radio etc. Whats the point? I can do the original lamps with that Lead Light glass paint, or, those slip on coloured condom things, far cheaper than a 3 led kit!
