I'm using my GapIID tool to chase a suspected injector problem. My question is, does the Gap tool cylinder numbering follow the Land Rover numbering? E.G. the LR numbers the cylinders 1,2,3 front to back on the engine RH side.

I'm pretty sure it doesn't Dave.

With the Gap tool I believe the injector numbers are based on the firing order 1 4 2 5 3 6 and not the cylinder numbers.
That is injector 1 is cylinder 1, injector 2 is cylinder 4, etc.

Hmmm....just for confusion - this is from the Disco3 forum:

Thanks for the help. The current cylinder balacing offset figures I have are, in cylinder order, #1-722, #2-823, #3-1074, #4-1183, #5-1152, #6-941. The UK D3 forum suggests that the balance offset should be around 1000 so I'm thinking that the injectors in cylinders 1,4 and 5 need replacing. Possibly cylinder 2 as well.
Another idea that has occurred to me is a possible turbo fault. Is there an easy way to check this?

I doubt that a turbo fault would cause cylinder balance issues though.

Those numbers look a lot better than what you previously posted when you first got it running. Only cylinder 1 is a bit low, but otherwise I would say they are now OK.
They could be self correcting and just need a good run to sort out. It seems that the self-adaption programming on the 2005 model is not very good if the original adaption values have been cleared and it takes longer to rebalance than the later models.
Until you can take it for a long drive I would not be changing any injectors just yet. From what I have read as soon as you change one injector you can end up chasing your tail.
If well outside of acceptable range that can’t be offset, then I have read it should also bring up an injector at maximum trim fault code as well although the one at max trim is not always the one with the problem.

Thanks for the advice, I have some spare injectors that I will be getting checked out. Like you say a good run may sort things out, the problem is that I don't know that I'll be able to register the vehicle with the smoke that it currently blows. I did get a message pop up that injector #1 was out of range, but that only happened once,

For comparison mine range from 875 to 1170 which seems to be fairly typical.
You may want to get a temporary permit to take it for a longer drive. Just select “Preparing vehicle for registration” on the basis of needing to take it somewhere for repairs or testing. A 28 day permit is only $80.

Thats an idea I hadn't considered. I have to finish a rotine service first though.

If you want to take it for a good run i'll come for backup.
