Just saw this and though it would be a great idea for the useless factory roof rails i have. Has anyone mounted a light bar across the roof from rail to rail?

Bet it's noisy.

Yeah! real noisey, notice the owner of the car in the pic hasn’t worked out how best to route the cabling - atm it’s through an open window [emoji21]
oh! and nice snorkel, I have one of them [emoji4] made for LR by MANTEC

Mine is mounted further back and a bit higher on the half length cargo basket roof rack thingy

The cable goes down along the rack leg, sits in the gutter to the front corner then is tucked under the windscreen placky down the a pillar and exits out the bottom into the engine bay .

Its about 60cm wide at a guess and makes more than enough light forwards and side spread is fantastic.

It came with the car and first time I turned it on it turned me on.

they can be noisey in some areas where you have overzealous Highway Patrol officers. What's that noise, where is it coming from? why is the Police car following me with his siren going?

There are also rules about the height of lights from the road, to avoid dazzling on-coming drivers, so it might be illegal to turn on that light bar while on a public road. Better to mount it at about the same height as the headlights.

Or you can simply put a dedicated switch in place so that you can operate the lightbar independantly to you regular spotties that come on when your high beam is used without lighing up the overhead bar at the same time.
This way you can use the roof mounted bar off road (where it is most useful) without worrying about blinding other road users on gazeted roads[thumbsupbig]

I have this setup on my 79 Series and it works perfectly[biggrin]

Baja Racks used to do a "stealth" lightbar which pivoted downwards when not turned on .

An alternative is to cut some cloth or whatever and cover the bar until off-road. Keeps it clean too. 👍🏻
