Does anyone know for sure how easy, difficult, possible, body on, is it to remove the 2ndary driver side turbo off a 3.0L Tdv6. I have replaced the pass side main turbo but seems the 2ndary turbo is whistling now and needs changing. Given the pass side was done with body on, hoping its possible to do the driver side with body on as well. Can anyone confirm from their experience what they have had done with regards to the 2ndary turbo on the 3.0L diesel please.

Pretty sure body on, dont know the hours involved. Access through the wheel arch and top wishbone and strut has to come out.

Both of mine have been done, one under warranty, that was done by LR body off, so i think that was the passenger side. I do believe its easier and faster body off if you have the hoist.

I wasn't game to DIY mine, i paid to have it done, oem turbo with 12 month full replacement warranty.

My my12 secondary turbo has a slight whistle on medium to hard acceleration, has had since I purchased 4 years ago. Doesn’t blow smoke or use oil. What is the trigger for replacement?

Yes, re reading the OP's post, i thought turbos are suppossed to whistle? The car will throw an error code along the lines of boost pressure unavailable or similar if the turbo is failing. Check for oil leaks around the middle and excessive smoke from the exhaust.

Cheers Eric, no oil leak, no errors, 217k on the clock, just a slight whistle as I accelerate.

Ignored so far until more evidence of an actual problem.

Sounds like a normal turbo spooling up, remember they run at anywhere between 10,000 to 30,000 rpm, to generate the boost pressure needed, so a whistle is pretty normal and sounds good imho.

No codes- no worries then

Actually upwards of 350,000rpm depending on size but more typically in the 100,000-200,000 rpm.
