So… redoing the head gasket on 2001 TD5 (Discovery 2). Took the head to get tested, which it came back fine, problem is they gave me back my lash adjusters and rollers in a plastic bag all mixed up!! My question is am I screwed? Adjusters were not kept vertical, or stored in oil….

what options do I have? Do I need to buy all new adjusters and rollers? Can I get away with new adjusters and reuse the rollers? Do I roll the dice and just reinstall the current adjusters and rollers and hope for the best?

there is no obvious wear patterns on camshafts, rollers or adjusters…. Am at a loss, very irritated at the situation.

any guidance is greatly appreciated.

Unless you wanna go to the bother and expense of all new, I'd reuse and just pretend they aren't mixed up!

Done it plenty of times when forced to.

Just remember you also can't reuse a head once it's been skimmed, but plenty do.

Cheers

Thanks for the reply James. I was doing the rest of the job so meticulous, to have that happen has thrown me for a loop. Really don’t want to have to pull the head off again after complete. If I were to reuse the lash adjusters does soaking them in oil do anything to restore them? Anything I can do to increase the chance of not having a issue once I put the head back on the motor?

Not really, but I'd be surprised if you have trouble, if you bought new ones they wouldn't be "worn" to the head either, and it's not likely that the original ones were matched to the head in the first place.

Cheers

As James said. It's all rollerised, it shouldn't be an issue
It's not like they're radiused faced hydraulic lifters matched to a taper face cam.
