Is it petrol or diesel? If diesel, what's the difference between it and a Td4?

For a start, look here. Interesting question, BTW.

SD4 is the uprated Diesel. Significantly increased performance.

I know that the TD4 and SD4 are to my knowledge the same engine but I haven't been able to find out definitely what the differences are. I would love to find out if you can update a TD4 to an SD4 spec.

My investigation suggests that the Td4 is a 2.0 litre engine of Ford origin whereas the Sd4 is an older, 2.2 litre design with Peugeot/ Citroen heritage.

My two bob's worth.....from what I have read the TD4 and SD4 in the Freelander 2 are the same engine, however the SD4 has a different level of tune and higher power output.

Not gospel, but the article I posted states this: Engine: 2179cc 4-cylinder, 16-valve turbo diesel, common rail fuel injectionPower: 110kW (TD4), 140kW (SD4)
