My Bet is the new LOOK at me beautiful ship might get named HRH Phillip? Also suspect she will be hydrogen powered as the poms are moving that way at a much faster rate than we are.

"A new national flagship is to be commissioned by the government in a bid to boost British trade and industry globally, the prime minister has said.

The vessel will be the successor to the Royal Yacht Britannia, which was retired in 1997.
The government plans to build the ship in the UK, at a reported cost of £200m.
Labour said the government must demonstrate clearly how the ship is expected to boost trade, jobs and growth.

The name of the new flagship has yet to be announced, but the Daily Telegraph has suggested the ship will be named after the Duke of Edinburgh, who helped design Britannia.

The new vessel would be used to promote British interests around the world - including hosting trade fairs and diplomatic meetings - as the UK seeks to build links and boost exports following Brexit.

Not for her Maj!! " Off with his Head

It is not for the use of the Queen!! This will be the PM’s floating palace when he is on trade missions abroad or at international summits.

A No10 source said: “Its role will be distinct from that of any previous national flagship."

I wonder if she gets sea sick in her senior years. I do just a bit now where I never did in my prior sea life. Laughing at myself throwing up has occurred 3 times now. A long way offshore and only after my head been in the bottom boat of the boat rigging baits and breathing 2 stroke fumes in rough stuff :)

Good on them. The old Britannia did much travelling showcasing Britain and what she used to stand for. Not sure what they stand for now though..
Anyway it was only Bliars sheer bloody mindedness that had her scrapped as she was an icon of the upper classes which he longs to join but no one wants him. :)

I could maybe see "HRH The Duke of Edinburgh"

Hard to keep up with Britannia as a ships name though...

They are not going to get much of a boat for £200m

Agree. Perhaps a Russian businessman's pre-owned yacht?

If it's not built as a luxury ocean liner as Brittania was , but built to purpose , 200m pound should do it.

Who would crew it? Royal Navy?

It is good to see that the old Britannia is preserved. A lot of equipment and construction methods now lost to progress. The propulsion system alone using steam turbines are now a thing of the past.

HMY Britannia - Wikipedia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HMY_Britannia)

An early Land Rover in much-restored shape is displayed in the on-board garage, while a retired Rolls-Royce Phantom V (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rolls-Royce_Phantom_V) state car (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Official_state_car#United_Kingdom) is parked on the wharf below the ship.

In May 2021, it was reported that Prime Minister Boris Johnson (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boris_Johnson) would announce the construction of a new royal yacht, named after Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prince_Philip,_Duke_of_Edinburgh), "within weeks".[22] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HMY_Britannia#cite_note-22) On 29 May, Johnson announced that the "new national flagship" - a ship rather than a luxury yacht - would enter service within the next four years and cost up to £200 million.[23] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HMY_Britannia#cite_note-23)[24] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HMY_Britannia#cite_note-24) The following day it was reported that Government plans to name the ship after the Duke of Edinburgh were not well-received amongst Royal sources, and these plans had subsequently been "abandoned".[25] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HMY_Britannia#cite_note-25)

For anyone as old as me that has worked on ships, both navy and merchant, the following is a good insight into the technology of the time. DC electrical systems and something called R12 in the refrigeration systems!

Most of the old Chief Engineers that I worked with when first going to sea, had steam "tickets", or "double barrelled" steam and motor certificates. But they all were without exception, completely bluffed by what that bloody "lecky" was up to with the DC electrical systems!

From what has been reported, any new ship will not be dedicated to the royal family, so as a merchant type ship merchant navy crews will man it. (or woman it as the case may be!, or non-binary if that way inclined)

This is available for around £195 million, second hand.

Britain can no longer build her own RFA support ships, they have only two shipyards that build warships, they have trouble recruiting sailors, and now this . Surely a Boris thought bubble. What is not well known is that the wars in Iraq & Afghanistan wore out the tanks, crews, ships , aircraft that had a peacetime life of 25 years at three times the peace time rate. After 8 years in Iraq and Afghanistan, they had worn out. There was no additional funding , so funds for new ships, service hospitals, pensions, pay, submarines, aircraft , etc were transferred to keep the Army fighting. As it turns out, simply to prevent them losing. I read an interview of an old grizzled Scottish marine Engineer, when asked how the UK would crew new ships proposed for the RN and he said " They would have to look in the cemetery. " Sorry, but I believe a new show pony ship is not what the UK needs right now. The greatest Navy in the World reduced to borrowing aircraft for their carrier, It's a crying shame.

Rant over, apologies but it had to be said

Actually Bobs right in many ways. Having to borrow planes to fly off their newest carrier is an absolute disgrace and ALL of their totally worthless pollies on both sides should be ashamed of themselves. I personally like the idea of a decent ship showcasing Britain around the world but not when the armed forces are in such a badly run down state.
Maybe they should invent a gun to shoot useless seat polishing bureaucraps (mis-spelling intended) and pollies at the enemy. :)
