Just had an Autron Cruise control installed in my 2005 Defender. Makes the commute much more enjoyable, as about half of it is highway driving. These highways also include fixed speed cameras. I hate having to pay attention to my speed at every overpass, and overhead sign. Just set it at 102, and no more worries. Paid $720 installed, with a dash activator, and controls.

The guys at "No limit car electornics" in South Melbourne were fantastic, and had it installed in about 5 hours.

Am one happy camper, at least until there is something else that I need for the Defender.

It does make touring easier

Only operational problem I get is passing a slower car or truck. Givit it right foot to get past, no probs, lift off and it won't resume at the set speed. It'll drop to say 95 kph before cutting in & getting back up to 105. Which means the said car or truck is up your khyber pass again. Quite dangerous the first time it happened, now I allow more room.

Lifting off very slowly also cures it, but it shouldn't be necessary to work around such a simple issue.

But otherwise, very happy.

My factory cruise in the Commodore does the same thing

I've found someone who did it without buying the kit. You just need 2 switches from a disco apparently. It's on my list to look into. I'll post a photo of the switch and hopefully someone will identify it for me.. but that is another thread :)

It's good that it all works well though. It might be that the two switches are worth more than 720 anyway  :(

Hey Phil,

Just a quick note. It is a 110 Defender, the avatar photo is on an acute angle where it looks shorter than it is.

As for any problems or complaints, none to speak of. Yes I do have to let off the petal slowly once passing any slow moving vehicle to avoid dropping down to about 5k slower than the set speed. This seems to be common on most typs of cruise control. Also have to pay attention when going down in the City Link Tunnel. There are four speed cameras in the longer one (with a camera at the bottom of the hill), and three in the shorter one. While on cruise, it will accelerate going down hill. Don't know if the cruise just lifts off on acceleration, but momentum takes over? Anyway just need to be careful.

Am still happy!

Was down at MR the other day and looking at cruise fitted to 130. Evidently it's all there in the TD5's just requires switch and harness.

That's what I'm trying to put together. I've already seen it installed in a 90. Watch for progress ;)

I had an acute angle once, but I traded it in on an ugly one.
