Privacy groups may be shattered to see the Police created a encrypted comms app. With the likes of APPLE refusing to allow law enforcement to see criminals access to iphones the criminal geniuses who used and shared the police created AN0M app them did their thing.
Bravo Zulu "Operation Ironside"
Anyone wonder if the bright spark who convinced the other crims to ditch their apples might be in a little hot water with his mates[biggrin]
Note apple hack is a given.

I would love to be in the know around the decision making on when to go public and do the raids. That would have been very interesting balancing the possibility of gaining new information vs arresting those that they had on the hook and how many crims you could quietly arrest without tipping off how you found out their secrets.

In detailed articles about this apparently it took the investigators months in some cases to work out the id of who was messaging.
It must have become obvious from the knowledge gained over time that the number of 'correspondents' was no longer increasing, the school of fish were all in the net, hence the busts.

You are indeed correct Tote. Sounds like the same issue the Brits had in WWII when they broke the German Enigma Code’s, after which they had to disguise where they got their intel.
I’m pretty sure a decrypt in 1941 showed that the city of Coventry was about to be heavily bombed, leaving the Brits in an agonising position. Do you throw up massed night fighters on the night of the raid - which would have instantly tipped the Germans off to a possible cypher leak, or do you husband your intel resources? I’m glad I’m not making those decisions!

It also has a pay-day if it places doubts among the crims on other 'real' encryption apps.

Reading this morning, it seems the bust was triggered by the expiration of a court order that enabled the participation of one of the overseas agencies. Very clever project though, apparently with a specialised handset that was purchased to access the app presumably giving a greater level of assurance of its security.

He has been on the run for a while. I love runners though I suspect his bulked up steroid weight might make long distance running a bit of a drama for him.
trikes gang, triads, mafia....... The chase is on I wonder where in the world he can hide his possibly very tiny testicles (steroids do that) [biggrin]
Police suggesting they are worried about him. [bigwhistle][bigwhistle][bigwhistle]

This article ran four days ago obviously to cause a bit of chatter. Implies he has STD's and him marriage is on the rocks, also mentions the police are frustrated by the use on encrypted messages. The whole article basically outs his whereabouts.
Police did an amazing job setting all this up.

I was rather amazed reading that media could easily find him yet police could not. Ill informed at that time, I teased a police person I know they might need to employ journalist. We now know they not only knew exactly where he was but also used him as a tool (or fool) and could see hear and understand any nefarious actions he was up to[biggrin]
The news papers claim the police could not find him but they could are now clearly a huge bit of "WHOOPs" Big claim proved wrong plus[bigrolf] The journos - Nick McKenzie, Joel Tozer and Sumeyya Ilanbey just might have known of course[bigwhistle]

America the land of the free[bighmmm] So free they cannot listen to criminals[biggrin]
"However, FBI agents were not allowed to download or read any messages sent from AN0M accounts in the United States because of privacy laws.
President of the NSW Council of Civil Liberties Pauline Wright said the US had "pretty strict protections around human rights and privacy" which Australia did not have.
"It illustrates that Australia is an outlier in terms of protections for human rights and civil liberties," she said."
I am glad I live in Australia

That's why they have to prosecute mafia bosses for tax evasion. So many loopholes to get evidence disallowed for other crimes. There are two sides to the debate over whether Australia should have a bill of rights and the consequences of such a document.
