Has anybody found a good price for replacement plenum covers , or are these pieces of plastic just very expensive??
The cover on every D2 I have had have been in many pieces, and I just see it as a very expensive piece of not very good plastic, not to mention freight extras for such a long item.

It might help if we know if a TD5 or V8 - if a V8 that is not a Plenum gasket - looks like one of two valley cover end gaskets. They normally come in a valley cover kit.

Oh OK thanks - the OP needs to be more specific [thumbsupbig] - the pic looks like a V8 valley cover gasket at first glance with those 4 holes.

There used to be a chap on eBay from Malaysia (rexypow?) who did the fibreglass reproductions along with the instrument binnacles and A pillars, however last time I looked he was no longer on there.

FWIW get the part number and then I ring up your local Land Rover dealer, you may be pleasantly surprised at the price they quote you. When I bought the gutter trims for my D2 couple of years ago the local dealer was significantly cheaper than buying overseas and paying freight.

And finally don’t be tempted to buy secondhand they will only break sooner

cheers

They usually break from the actions of windscreen replacers.
The bonnet has to be removed to remove the plenum when a new windscreen is being fitted.
The fitters all try to remove the plenum with the bonnet still on and they break in the middle and elsewhere as the fitter tries to wrangle it out.
Mine is one I swapped about 10 years ago as part of a deal to buy LR tank .

After much searching to replace a multiple times cracked Plenum I purchased a Fiberglass one from Landy Nut.
Expensive, well made and and with some patience fitted well. Very happy with the product.
Did add a line of Permatex Windscreen Sealer to the top edge and side water drains.

Being a glutton for punishment, I gave barbagallo LR a ring they wanted ~$500 for one.

thai_tiger if you do order some from him I'd be interested in seeing it's worth combining orders to help on shipping.

Next time when you get your windscreen replaced on insurance get the plenium and the side plastics replaced, This is exactly what I did and it cost me $0 [biggrin][thumbsupbig][bigrolf]

#Metoo. When I had a windscreen done under Shannon's at O'brian up in Cairns probably 5 or so years ago they replace the plenum and A pillar plastics as a "matter of course" the manager told me.

Ditto I got my A pillars and top moulding included when my windscreen was replaced 4 years ago. Unfortunately I had replaced my plenium a couple of years before that as it had cracked :(

In comparison LRdirect in the UK quote $582 inc shipping for the genuine part so Barbagallos are competitive on this occasion....

Hi mate,

I was wondering how you got on with this?

I would love to get my hands on some of these myself.

If possible could you share the details of the seller please.

Cheers,

Been on the hunt for a new one of these for a while. Reached out to Landy Nut but no reply.
Are the fibreglass ones from SE Asia now ghosts of the past?

Just yesterday I sent a question to Land Rover classic parts, if it will be avail anymore.
It's out of stock at their website.

.. and I need two of these.

I was kinda hoping to buy them on blak friday as classic parts have had some discounts then.

For future reference the part number is JAK000010PMA
JAK000010PMA - Land Rover Moulding-plenum air intake extension | Jaguar Land Rover Classic Parts (https://parts.jaguarlandroverclassic.com/jak000010pma-moulding-plenum-air-intake-extension.html)

Any tips on the fiberglass ones are VERY welcome!

I need one and a RHS A pillar trim.

I'd like to have a couple of sets of the a pilar trims also.

Just got some cheapo chinesium ones from aliexpress and well, they are too tight of a fit to be put on with the rubber seal and metal clips.
Genuine ones are whopping 160 GBP each...

I think I must be missing something as I can see plenty of people expressing interest for some sort of group buy, but not 1 link to any supplier who might have them in stock, what's the go with this?

The first major hurdle would be to find an unbroken one, from which to make the mould. [bigsad]

It would be possible to use one that is broken in two and repaired. Has to be a good repair! 12mm hardwood across the defect to align the parts correctly. The join or seam line in the mould could be wet and dry sanded out.

Any one got a broken set near western suburbs, melbourne?

If I pulled mine off, it would be like putting a twenty piece jigsaw together with only fifteen pieces. [bigrolf]

I think I'd get 2 bits.

I removed my single piece unit one day, and at the 7 min mark of the video you linked, I ended up with two pieces. I think every time you get to this "7 min mark" of wiggling the piece, you end up with more pieces than you originally did! [biggrin]

Yeah ok, what are the down sides to not having the plenum?

Water down into the HVAC blower and beyond! That openign at the least needs to be covered.

On a side note, I found on the TD5 I had to make a small 'shield' to stop water ingress through the opening(under the plenum). .. just some (self adhesive) rubber strip surrounding the raised part of the opening and butted up against the underside of the plenum.

I think what was happening, was water sitting in the bulkhead valley, then when moving off, it'd splash into the opening, down to the blower ... buggered blower.

I sikad fine mesh over the HVAC opening snd then put thick rubber pinch grip over the edge that buts up close to the plenum cover. Works well to keep rats, water and leaves etc out. Cheers
