Hi All,

Apparently my shocks needs replacement and have been quoted for Terrafirma by the mechanic where I get my vehicle serviced.

Are these any good, or should I be looking for another brand.

Thanks
JA

Nothing wrong with the landrover ones, a set I had on the Td5 did the Canning twice, Anne Beadell ,Gunbarrel and many more. When I sold it with 216,000 K's on it they were still roadworthy. Although not perfect they passed the Victorian R/Worthy system. I think too many people get carried away over shocks and I think the important thing is how you threat your vehicle on outback tracks. Bit like upgrading suspensions to carry more, same wheels, brakes, bearings and axle housings. Something has to break.

Our original Land Rover shocks are still okay after 170,000 kms, so the quality must be good, but it obviously depends on how they have been used.
When I discussed this with British Off Road they recommended Terrafirma or OME.

I've had terrafirma shocks in my 110 for about 5 years now. Going strong. I don't do punishing correggated roads, loaded up or anything like that though, so can't comment for durability in those kinds of conditions. At the time though, I whent for the kit with springs, relocation cones, long travel shocks etc. The old gear in the car at the time was very tired so I noticed a big difference and was very happy. Really suited my weekend warrior approach to exploring tassie bush and didn't send me broke. Works for me so far! But if you were keeping everything suspension wise standard in your truck, then original landrover would be as good as anything I would imagine?

I just pulled out the Terrafirm Big bores from the rear of the 110 as one was starting to leak. They have been in there for 8 years and roughly about 60-70k km, over the Simpson twice, Cape York and other offroad adventures. They lasted longer than the original Land Rover rear ones that were replaced under warranty by Land Rover at about 2 1/2 years and about 40k km (the eyes snapped off both 2 shocks weeks apart).

They have been good on the rear, i just never got around to doing the front ones I bought. I have now replaced the 2 Terrafirmas (rear) and the 2 Originals (front) with a Set of superior engineering remote res shocks. The fronts still seem to be working ok, I needed to replace the springs as they had sagged.

I have got a good collection of new shocks in the shed that i don't need now [bigsmile1]

Koni HD Raids on my 87 County three years ago and haven't looked back since. Great ride across country and up north twice, near daily driving and no issues.
