Just heard on the news that Norfolk Island has changed it's postcode to something starting with a 4.

It's a regular occurrence. The management of the island is shared between the states.

It had a 2 prefix postcode when I lived there (1990-1993) but had its own country code for telephone calls (+672), not +61 like Australia.
Hmm, looks like it still does.

Confirmation only announced on tonight's news by our Premier.

We had our honeymoon on Norfolk Is and I feel a little sorry for them, not big enough to be self sustaining and reliant on tourism without a reliable airline service. We booked our tickets over and were forced to rebook two one way fares because flights were inexplicably cancelled. Prior to the introduction of the GST there was a reasonable industry selling goods sales tax free that seemed to kick the tourism industry along but I'd imagine that's long gone.
Norfolk lost their independance when they went broke and got a federal bail out. Now it seems that NSW doesnt want their problems anymore, maybe Qld will have better luck.Politics of Norfolk Island - Wikipedia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Politics_of_Norfolk_Island)
Norfolk Island never wanted to be governed by Australia or NSW, I can't see them being overjoyed with Qld either although it seems they don't have much say in the matter.

Geologically it is a part of the declared 8th continent, Zealandia (also known as Te Riu-a-Maaui or Tasmantis).

When I was a kid, I always heard my elders refer to Norfolk Is. as a destination for honeymooners and old people.
They had the saying "The newly matched and nearly dispatched".

Or “Newly wed and nearly dead.”
They say it’s their island given to them by Queen Vic and taken from them by Australia.
If they were another nation Australia would be giving them assistance without expectations of anything in return.

Hmmm! The good woman and myself were thinking of heading there this August for a culinary cavort and the BIL and I to indulge in some deep sea, piscatorial pursuits.
Where does that put us? [tonguewink]

Probably not the newlyweds, particularly with the BiL. :tease:

Helen's sister will be there, too. The four of us travel well together and the system gives us blokes a lot of 'Free Time'. You with me?[thumbsupbig]
Might even get to chase a little, white, dimpled ball around a few paddocks.[bigsmile1]

I just happen to know where there are a few, for the taking. [bigwhistle]
