Yes you read correctly people... i'm now starting the ball rolling on a July 2007 Gold Coast Land Rover Owners / AULRO Cape York trip
Current plan from my side will be to train vehicles up to Cairns (approx. $240 one way) and fly up (approx. $140 one way on current fares).
Then spend around 8-12 days seeing the sights on the way to the cape and back to cairns.... obviously those who want to work around those plans and include driving up and back to Cairns instead of train are quite welcome.
I'm still tossing up between trailer or rooftop tent.
So who is interested in all this? ;)

Outlaw,
I'd def. be interested, although I'd be drivin up to Cairns for sure.
A trailer would be a major PITA, and you'd probably have to leave it somewhere well short of the Cape.
Although if you decide on one - can you carry all my Sh*t?!!!

Was planning a trip from Brisie to Perth through the simpson desert, as this has been a goal of mine for a while but also want to do the cape, so if your trip with the club goes ahead I will be in and I do perth 2008. Maybe this could be a club trip for 2008:D
Although have to say that i would drive up to Cairns, with possible coming back via the train.
Would look at an off road camper as friends of mine have just done the trip in 100 series cruiser  and off road camper with no problems on their own, so i'm keen to do it in club format. If you get the right off roader there should not be too much of a drama plus I need the space for 4 people in my car, along with the fact I dont like roughing it for that period of time and my family like the comforts of a off road camper/caravan.
Cheers

I'd love to do it. I think I'd replace the air suspension with coil springs for that trip.

This seems like a QLD club bash, so would it be OK to tag along if we're from way down south? Be a bit of a hike from Adelaide........
I reckon my 130 might be back together again by then, so that'd be a good trip to test things out.
Cheers

Heck yes, this could be interesting.... Stevo in his shorts, crocs, tropical north....:D
I'll have to go just to take photo's:p
With all the response from rangy owners, i'll be a bit concerned. At least with defenders they kept the body and suspension the same for they got it right the first time. Ooooh i love stirring:twisted:, so keep your shorts on, i'm only joking:angel:, and we fender owners will help you guys out in the rough:eek:. Now to duck for cover.....

Steinzy - it's all sorted - combine it with the trip, you'll have
Wedding Cars
Choice of Venues
Honeymoon
Flowers (well tropical blooms)
Guests
Fine dining (out of a cast iron pot)
Think of it as 2000k progressive dinner & ceremony
She'll be rapt!!

Wedding is on the 14th July 07

Easy dont tell her - say that the honeymoon is a surprise and that your organising the whole thing and keeping it a real surprise.
Then stick car onto train and fly up to cairns, at least your departing on an aircraft keeps her in suspense. Hell the club will even help organise getting the p38 on the train and picking you up at the airport other side.

I will not be able to make this trip as there is an AULRO trip to be held latter in the year (2007) by ACE to Tassie.
I wanted to get to Tassie this year for the Corroboree but it was not to be, but since there is a trip running next year this is where I cant wait to get to so Tassie it is.
Have fun at the cape and will wait to see your photos of the action up North.

This could be a goer for us as we are doing the Cape in 07 but were looking at a solo in Aug-Sept.
A group would be much more fun plus maybe someone else to help pull me and the camper out of the poo:D
Would be driving up and back as there are some other stuff we want to see on the way tho;)

Unless I can score a cheap tdi Disco between now and July  . Buying another LR for a trip, that's gotta be commitment, worry about paying for it later
