I don't usually buy genuine parts in Australia but if I did where is the best and cheapest people go?

I used to go to go to Land Rover in Cairns when I lived there and they weren't too bad on price, but I'm now in Hervey Bay so no dealer locally.

The part I'm actually after is a Exhaust Temp Sensor for an SD4 Evoque LR030747 that I can't seem to find an aftermarket replacement for.

Anyone have a "go to" place they can recommend?

Hello FisherX,

Have you tried Anderson Land Rover Spares & Repairs
4WD & 4X4 Accessories - Pialba, QLD 4655

80 Boat Harbour Dr, Pialba QLD 4655

It has been years since I have been there. Not sure if they are still operating?

Kind regards
Lionel

I wouldn’t. You’re the first person I’ve ever heard say that.

Oh, and it’s British Car Components in Melbourne who I get all my parts from.

Depends if it's in stock or not.

I'm not sure if the words 'genuine' & 'cheapest' go together.
Genuine would typically be from Land Rover themselves so the price is controlled but many suppliers claim 'OEM', 'OEM quality', 'made to OEM standard' all of which mean nothing.
You want a supplier that backs up the parts it supplies, genuine or not. There are some parts where aftermarket is better than genuine.

The cheapest 'genuine' parts would be from Overseas, even after factoring in freight.

But what if you’re told it’s in stock and it isn’t? Can’t elaborate here and neither can plenty of others so I’ll leave it at that.

I know a lot of you rubbish Britpart but if they weren't getting parts made, a lot of stuff simply wouldn't be available.

I've bought off Roverlord, KLR Automotive, Karcraft, et al, and, back in the day, Land Vehicle Spares (no longer operating), and Four Wheel Drives when Anda Lawson ran it (are they still in business?). All have been good.

However, if you want Perentie parts, the go to place is definitely KLR Automotive.

I go with Mike at Britannica Restorations on this.. Britpart some good stuff and some not so good. They work within what they have, or can source. They source stuff from China, sure, but who doesn'? They also source OEM from places like Turkey, India, Spain, Mexico.... Often they'll have actual LR stuff, but at BP prices, not LRs. I guess that most suppliers are in the same boat re LR stuff. LR themselves don't do it, so find a supplier that works. It's always going to be fraught.

However, Mario seems able to source good stuff, even now he's not well.

Four Wheel Drives changed hands a few times after Anda sold it and then changed direction.
Seems most of the secondhand parts went to the tip and the Series One Shop purchased the new parts.
They are now South Eastern Auto Parts (or something similar) and will source parts but it's not their core business.

As you mention, a lot of people rubbish Britpart and some claim Bearmach is better.
I wonder how many companies are actually making the aftermarket parts as I suspect both companies source some items from exactly the same suppliers in India/China/Turkey.
Most of the aftermarket rubber parts are rubbish but otherwise I've never had issue with Britpart parts.

I forgot British Motor Imports at Mulgrave (outer Sydney suburb).

Like Karcraft, they have OEM and aftermarket parts. You can specify what you want. Karcraft has 3 grades for pricing of parts. Naturally, OEM will likely be most expensive.

Thanks Mario, I did check with Land Rover Aust and I was quoted $382 for the part.

I ended up going with Britcar from the UK for half the price with postage.

Thanks all for your input.

best/cheapest is a bit of an oxymoron isn't it?

Yes, but I suppose on a sliding scale there’s somewhere that provides a decent part at the best value for money which I think is what the OP was after.

yeah I understand. I was having a go.

when I was boy first buying parts for an FJ ute , too many years ago now , I went to Repco.

I think they're still good and the last time I used Repco was to get some bits for my D2 in Emerald 8yrs ago.

It appeared to me , if it was on someones parts list , they could get it for you.

Just the history on this 11MY Evoque SD4.

It was a quoted job I'm doing for one of my customers. When I ran the scan on the car the fault code came up as "#1 Exhaust temp sensor Post Turbo". So I checked the voltage and earth from the ECU. That was good, 5V supply and a good ground. Resistance on the sensor was in the Mega ohms and a visual seen a break on the insulation so I thought sensor bad. Easy'ish fix. I changed out the sensor with an NTK aftermarket sensor but, Yeah nah. The Post Turbo sensor is #2. And #2 sensor is readily available at $120. #1 on the other hand is hard to spot and in the Exhaust manifold.

So as a quoted job and being mobile so they can see exactly what you are doing it's hard to BS them (which I don't do anyway) the cost of the new #1 sensor is on me [bawl]. And of course the #1 sensor is more expensive and hard to come by as I couldn't find an aftermarket replacement, I had to go genuine.

So as I wait on the replacement to come in I've put a 1.1K ohm resistor in the plug which tells the ECU that the exhaust is 420 degrees and stops it going into limp mode so she can use the car while we wait on delivery. She is a single mum with the Evoque being her only car so we had to try and keep it on the road.

I'm not sure if my work around will have any effect on the DPF regeneration but hopefully the part shouldn't take too long and I can always force a DPF regen when the new sensor is fitted.

Thanks for all the input guys.

P.S The SD4s in the Evoque aren't that much better than the TD4 in a Freelander 2 and the FL2 rides better.
